Chapter 22: Serenity
I wait anxiously, holding Dawn’s hand.
We’re at an airport, a normal airport, walking around with no worries at all. Malaki and Akasha are behind us, arms around each other’s waists.
A month has passed since The Divide ended.
“This is it,” I whisper.
A plane lands on the runway, emblazoned with the US flag and a red equal sign encircled in black.
Dawn and I grip each other tightly.
People soon walk off the ramp into the airport, and we get as close to the entrance as we can without blocking it.
“There they are!” Dawn screams.
I cheer and run into my parents’ arms.
Dawn finds her dads and does the same.
They survived the final nuclear attack because they’d been living in the bunkers full time ever since Dawn and I left them.
