Chapter 4: SerenityIt was almost as hard to find time with Dawn alone in California as it was before we moved out here. After a very memorable afternoon on the beach, I went out to eat with my parents, but still snuck out my window that night to spend more time with her. I’d ease my parents into the idea that I didn’t feel like I should have a curfew anymore on another day. In her bed, Dawn lay on her stomach and put one arm around my waist. The other snaked down the front of my shirt and played with the ring she gave me. I had put it around a chain necklace, not ready to announce our engagement to the world yet. It still seemed strange that we didn’t have to keep our relationship a secret. I liked the special feeling of no one else knowing about our planned marriage but us yet. Her hand
