Chapter 8: SerenityAfter several hours of shakes and rumbles, all was quiet. The electricity flickered from time to time, but many of us had tablets that were still charged, and used their screens for light. Even though we didn’t have a wireless signal down here, there were a couple of bigger computers hooked up in a small room. Sol was soon commandeering those, sending messages around the islands, and he let us know when we received the all-clear to go back upstairs.
It took a long time for everyone to get organized, silently lining up and doing head counts, but eventually people began filtering out of the room. We made our way out and up, everyone clutching the hand or arm of the person closest to them. My parents gripped my shoulders, and Dawn’s fingers interlinked with mine.
