""Let Aisha go! Tolu shouted, desperation creeping into his voice. “She has nothing to do with this!” “Oh, but she does,” Malik replied, a sinister chuckle escaping his lips. “You see, she’s your "leverage." If you want to see her again, you’ll need to convince your father to return what he took. Otherwise, things could get very messy.” Tolu felt a wave of anger wash over him. “You’re a monster! You think I’ll just sit back and let you hurt her?” “Think of it as a negotiation,” Malik said, his tone suddenly serious. You have 24 hours to get in touch with your father and find out what he took. If you don’t, I can’t guarantee Aisha’s safety. You know how to reach me. Before Tolu could respond, Malik hung up, leaving him standing there, his heart racing. He felt a mix of fear and determination. He had to find a way to save Aisha, but he also needed to understand what his father had done. “Are you okay?” one of the officers asked, noticing Tolu’s pale face. “No, I’m not okay!” Tolu snapped, his mind racing. They have Aisha, and they’re threatening her because of something my father did. I need to talk to him! The officer nodded, understanding the urgency of the situation. We’ll do everything we can to help you. Let’s get you to a secure location where you can call your father. As they drove to a nearby safe house, Tolu’s mind was a whirlwind of thoughts. What could his father have taken? And why hadn’t he ever mentioned it? He felt a deep sense of betrayal, but he couldn’t let that cloud his judgment. Aisha’s life was at stake. Once they arrived at the safe house, Tolu was ushered into a small room with a phone. He took a deep breath, his hands trembling as he dialed his father’s number. The phone rang several times before his father picked it up. “Tolu? Is that you? His father’s voice came through, sounding surprised. “Dad, I need to talk to you. "It is urgent"!” Tolu said, his voice rising with panic. “What’s going on?” his father asked, concern lacing his tone. “They have Aisha! The armed men—Malik— called me. He said you took something from them, something important. What is it?” There was a long pause at the other end of the line, and Tolu could hear his father’s breathing grow heavy. “Tolu, I can’t talk about this over the phone. It’s too dangerous.” “Dad, please! "They’re threatening her life"! "I need to know what you did"!” Tolu pleaded, his heart racing. “I made a mistake a long time ago,” his father finally admitted, his voice strained. I was involved in something I shouldn’t have been. I took something that belonged to them—a document that contained sensitive information about their operations. I thought I was protecting our family, but it only made things worse. Tolu felt a mix of anger and confusion. “Why didn’t you tell me? "Why didn’t you warn me about this"?” “I thought it was behind us,” his father replied, his voice heavy with regret. I thought they had moved on. I never wanted you to get involved in this world. I wanted to keep you safe. “Safe?” Tolu scoffed, his voice rising. “You call this safe? They have Aisha, Dad! They’re using her as leverage because of your past mistakes!” “I know, I know,” his father said, desperation creeping into his voice. “But you have to understand, Tolu, this is bigger than both of us. If they have that document, they could expose everything. I thought I could protect you and your mother by keeping them hidden.” “Protect us?” Tolu felt a surge of betrayal. “You’ve put us in danger! I need to know where you hid it. I need to get it back before they hurt Aisha!” His father hesitated, and Tolu could hear the tension in the silence. “There’s a safe place, an old storage unit. I kept it there, thinking it would be secure. The address is—” “Give it to me!” Tolu interrupted, his heart racing. He scribbled down the address as his father spoke, his mind racing with the implications. “I’ll go there and get it. But you need to promise me you’ll help me get Aisha back.” “I promise, Tolu. "" I will do everything I can,” his father said, his voice filled with urgency. "But you have to be careful". They’re dangerous, and they won’t hesitate to hurt you or Aisha if they feel threatened. “I know,” Tolu replied, determination flooding his veins. “I’ll be careful.” Just stay on the line and guide me to the storage unit. As Tolu made his way to the storage unit, he felt a mix of fear and resolve. He couldn’t let Aisha down. She had always been there for him, and now it was his turn to protect her. The streets blurred past him as he drove, his mind racing with thoughts of what he might find inside that unit. When he finally arrived, he parked the car and took a deep breath. The storage facility was old and rundown, the kind of place that felt like it held secrets in every corner. He approached the unit his father had described, his heart pounding in his chest. “Okay, I’m here,” Tolu said into the phone, his voice barely above a whisper. “What now?” “Look for a lock box in the back corner,” his father instructed. It should be hidden under some old boxes. The key is in the drawer on the desk I left there.
