Chapter 8: My Female Companion

619 Words
For a brief moment, the air was filled with excited screams. Guests, including some well-known faces, buzzed with enthusiasm at the rare appearance of Brad Willams. He offered a faint smile and a subtle nod to the crowd, looking effortlessly stylish in a beige casual suit, one hand tucked casually into his trouser pockets. With every step, he seemed to glide down an Avenue of Stars, exuding the essence of a noble prince rather than just another rising star. Soon, the event organizer approached to greet him. They exchanged a brief handshake, and she welcomed him with a smile. After a moment, he turned to Tiffany and inquired, "Who is this lovely lady?" Tiffany wore a faint smile, ready to introduce herself as his agent. However, before she could speak, Brad pulled her close and stated casually, "This is my female companion!" Tiffany caught the unmistakable sounds of gasps nearby. She looked up at him, irritated, but he seemed unfazed. Even amidst the shocked glances from everyone around, he maintained his relaxed hold on her shoulders, a charming smile gracing his face. It was evident that many women nearby felt their hearts sink at that moment. The organizer’s manager was equally taken aback, glancing at Tiffany, who had opted for understated makeup, oversized black glasses, a simple dark blue office outfit, and a handbag showing signs of wear. She looked as though she had just come from a somber event. The organizer’s mouth twitched, struggling to keep her expression neutral. "I see. May I ask this lady's name?" In response, Tiffany stepped on Brad’s foot, prompting him to withdraw his arm. She smiled politely and said, "Hello, I'm Tiffany Chris, his agent!" The organizer’s expression brightened. "Ah, Miss Tiffany! I've heard so much about you!" The ghost of relief was likely palpable in the air, as it was probably a relief that the agent wasn’t visually impaired as they had feared. Brad then added, "She is also my female companion today!" Tiffany chuckled, "Brad loves to joke around!" At that moment, they became the center of attention at the event. Noblewomen lingering nearby exchanged whispers, shocked that Brad was seen with someone they deemed so unfashionable. "She must be a mere shield. How could Brad possibly be interested in a woman like this?" "I’ve heard whispers about his agent. Last name Chris; she's supposed to be quite distinguished!" "Oh, you don’t know the half of it. Yes, she’s from the Chris family, but she’s their illegitimate daughter. Her mother passed away when she was just ten, and the Chris family took her in begrudgingly! In truth, she holds little value in their eyes. Once Mr. Chris is gone, she will inherit nothing!" These conversations drifted into the ears of Nathan Albert, who was seated in the corner, observing the complex dynamics of the event while sipping red wine. He was already surprised to see her there, and the sight of her closeness to another man added a layer of intrigue. Clearly, he didn't know nearly enough about his little wife. With a composed smile, he stood, raised his glass, and strolled gracefully into the crowd. Instantly, the gossiping ladies shifted their attention toward him. The seductive dance music filled the room, with dancers expressing a variety of emotions on the floor. He moved through the dance floor, directly approaching the duo. "Manager Steve! It’s been a while!" His calm voice cut through the chatter. Manager Steve looked up in surprise but quickly regained composure, laughing, "What a rare sight! General Manager Nathan has graced us with his presence." He shot a curious glance at the woman who seemed to be pretending to focus on the floor, avoiding his gaze.
