Chapter 11 - August Visit

Ekroff parked his vehicle and as soon as they sighted him through the blinds, they quickly thought of what to do, they hid the Werewolf book quickly alongside Juliana, Ipkis had to fake having a Fever, as he quickly jumped on the couch and covered himself with the blanket on. Then Ekroff Knocked on the door, Doctor Hopkins quickly responded; “Who is it please”.

(Ekroff) “Kindly Open the door, It’s me Ekroff Host”, then Doctor Hopkins walked straight to quickly open the door and welcomed him, so he could come in. Then as soon as he walked in, he saw Doctor Hopkins’ stethoscope, sphygmomanometer, and small first aid box left open on the table, then quickly took his eyes to Ipkis and then seats beside him on the couch. He then asked “Where have you been all these while, what is going on with you, for a while, I thought that a different pack of rival werewolves might have gotten to you, to the extent that I had to place an immediate search for you out there I had told the police as well as werewolves from my pack to get you back home at all cost. I had to just check here and there before my instincts led me here. I remember you always talking about this place and how great it was down here, far from everyone, and how it was a good place for thinking”.Then Ipkis responds as he fakes shuddering.

(Ipkis) “I am so sorry Dad that you had to go through all this, I couldn’t call, I just decided to reach out to Doctor Hopkins, who has been here all the time with me and goes to work from here, he has been kind you know”.

(Ekroff) “Do you feel better or do you have to get to the hospital or at least come home?”

(Ipkis) “I am getting better dad, I will be right here and I will be fine. I am staying because it is closer to the mine and reaches the office, you know I always love it right here, I don’t want to go back to your place, you know I am not into the Werewolf business Dad?”. Then Ekroff chuckles;

(Ekroff) “I know son, I was just worried about you, I wanted to make sure you are ok, you should have called me”. I am preparing a memorial for your mother and I thought that we planned it together, but you have to get well first, then that can come later”, then Ipkis responds You can go ahead Dad, don’t worry about me, let’s talk about it, I can manage. I think I can do with your company, it will help me get better soon”. Then Ekrioff asked, Doctor, what exactly is going on with my son?

(Doctor Hopkins) lied as he spoke shuddering “Erm Sir Ekroff, he had a stomach infection, it was severe, maybe he ate or ingested something, which triggered it, but he will be fine you know”.

(Ekroff) “I hope my son wasn’t deliberately targeted, I hope he wasn’t placed under any sort of radar by any mischievous werewolf, because I might have to tear them all apart. Where did he eat from, who served him food, was it a restaurant, I want to know anything, let me visit them”.

(Ipkis) “Come off it Dad, this is just a minor thing, you don’t have to pay any visits to no one. This is the exact reason why I wanted to be far from home. I just wanted a place where I won’t see any of these”.

(Ekroff) “Don’t worry son, all will be fine okay, just try to rest”, but why do I strangely smell the presence of someone else in the apartment? I feel a strange presence like a Werewolf is here, I can smell it, though I can’t place my hands on it”. Joana’s senses had been heightened and she heard all he was saying her heart began to thump harder and immediately Ekroff simultaneously said I can feel the heart thumping, as he began to pace around the apartment. Meanwhile, she was hidden in the fireplace, up the chimney of the fireplace. Doctor Hopkins managed to help himself regulate the fear which should show through his heart, so he doesn’t communicate suspicion.

Ipkis got scared and his own heart began to thump where he lay down, so he got up and said; “Dad, no one is here, it’s just me and Doctor Hopkins, but if anyone has penetrated here, I need to be sure that we are safe, I don’t want you to spill blood in the apartment, maybe I have to get my Gun close by”, as he attempted to get up, Ekroff quickly turned back to him, to grab him and prevented him from getting up.

(Ekroff) “Son, sit down, you don’t have to get up, I will take care of everything, don’t worry”, then as he helped his seat, he felt his heart thumping. Then he said; your heart is thumping, or was it your heart that I was hearing?”

(Ipkis) “Maybe Dad, it might be, you know I got scared when you mentioned the presence of a Werewolf, I thought they brought the war right here, following you down here”.

(Ekroff) “Your heart doesn’t thump this way, how come I can hear it differently, you know I am sensitive to these things, I can feel it, there is a change but I can’t place it”.

Meanwhile, Joana was already stuck where she was in great fear, she just held onto the book and kept her eyes closed in fear, as she listened to everything that transpired between Ekroff, Doctor Hopkins, and Ipkis. Doctor Hopkins was just hopeful, that the prolonged staying of Ekroff was not going to bring trouble to them, especially Joana. While Joana was there with the book, she suddenly began to go green, the moon had begun to come and the Werewolf book fell from her hands, while still in the Chimney and somehow it got stuck along the way. They all heard the sound of the fall of the book as Ipkis and Doctor Hopkin began to worry. Immediately, Ekroff got up and walked towards the Fireplace and looked around to check what fell there, it didn’t immediately occur to him to look up the chimney, to perhaps get a glimpse of what was moving up there. He patiently waited around there expecting to hear the sound again, perhaps it might be that there was movement inside the chimney. So he carefully drew the closest chair beside the fireplace and asked Ipkis and Doctor Hopkis “Are you both alright?, don’t worry I am going to take care of you, I am right here and no one messes up with Ekroff”. It was an atmosphere of tension for the both of them, Ekroff had mistaken it for the fear of the fact that he mentioned that they might have a Werewolf around and that he smelled a different aura, which made him perceive that it was a threat.

Joana, then noticed that she could rest a bit in the chimney, a corner like an L – shaped curve present there, so she stayed there, such that it was just her black boots and black trousers, protruding down the chimney to the fireplace. As Ekroff waited a bit to hear the sound, then he decided to take a bend to look up the chimney to confirm if there was something there.
