Hot bubble baths usually wash my worries away. But tonight, even neck-deep soaking, my mind kept churning with questions. Why did Xavier freak out when I mentioned his tattoo? And why did he storm off before explaining anything? A brisk knock interrupted my brooding. "One minute!" I yelped, sloshing water as I scrambled out to grab a towel. Dripping wet, I flung the door open to find Xavier standing there stiffly, hand half-raised to knock again. We both froze for a long awkward moment. His eyes traced damp hair clinging to my bare wet shoulders before I cinched the towel tightly around myself. My cheeks burned, but his face gave nothing away.
