The First Night

Ethnan's POV. Inhaling a sharp breath, I ripped my hand away from Samantha's hold as soon as the wedding ceremony was over. At the speed of light I hurried to my car. “Start the car!” I ordered my driver. Samantha stood frozen as the car slowly drove past her. The confusion that lodged in her eyes stabbed my heart with guilt, but I had to remind myself that I owed her no obligation to accord her any form of spousal courtesy. She knew the deal she signed up for, and so did I. From the rear mirror I could see how dazed she looked, her mother stood next to her, looking happy and cheerful. But, I couldn't help but notice Samantha's appearance that was enchanting—the wedding gown gave her the look of a goddess. I wiped my hand across my face to distract my attention, before pulling out my phone from my side pocket. Dialing one of my boys’ numbers, I watched impatiently as the phone rang. “You came with the Mercedes Benz to the wedding venue, yeah?” I asked the moment he got on the phone. From his end I could hear the faint voices of the wedding attendees, indicating that he was still at the wedding venue. “Yes, boss.” He answered eagerly. “Good. Get my bride…” I bit my tongue and corrected myself. “Get her to the house and assign her into the master's bedroom in the main building.” “Alright, sir.” The evening was breezy, a little hazy. The air whistled, creating a soft rhythm against the car. I relaxed my body on the headrest and kept my eyes fixed on the road. Our drive back home was unexpectedly quick and smooth. I didn't realize we had reached home until the car pulled into the estate and slowed to a stop. “Should we hang around?” My bodyguard asked as I stepped down from the car. “No,” I stifled a yawn. “Both of you can call it a day. Good night.” I headed straight to my room, changed into pajamas, and sank onto the bed. When I overheard the honk of a car about a few minutes later I knew Samantha had arrived. So, without a second thought I knew I needed to see her and ask her to suggest an alternative name that I would address her by, in order to bound the rage I felt for that god-forsaken name that reminded me of my mother's ordeal. Heading to the master's bedroom one hour later, my feet were stomping rapidly against the floor. At the doorstep I could see a subtle glow of light seeping out of the room. “Hey,” my tone was husky. “Could you open the door?” The door creaked slightly and swung open. “Ethnan,” She exhaled a long unstable breath, “I am excited that you are here.” My throat suddenly felt stiffened as her glittering eyes pierced through my body, dissolving the pent-up anger. “Alright,” I labored to say and stepped inside the room. I was hit by a rude shock to see Samantha in a colorful lingerie that exposed her cleavages and most of her lower body parts. Did she think her sexy body could make me revoke the terms of the deal? Hell no! Seeing a soft smile playing at the corners of her lips, I uttered sharply. “Samantha,” I swallowed a thick lump. “I really am a gentle man and I don't want to hurt you…..” “Do not worry, Enthan.” Her voice instantly quieted mine. “Every gentleman feels such fear for their woman during their first night….Just be gentle while at it and I will be fine.” An air of confusion settled around me, and for once I thought it emerged from Samantha's mind. “Umm..” I cleared my throat. “I was saying that I don't want to hurt you because….because your given name stirs an unpleasant emotion within me for some reasons I would rather not disclose. Do you mind suggesting a nickname I can call you by?” Her brows furrowed. “Nickname? Romantic names I suppose you meant. HONEY. MY LOVE. SWEETHEART. WIFEY. Any of these will be pleasing, you know.” She bit her lower lip slowly, flashing her beautiful teeth. She murmured words and inched closer to me. “Romantic names are for lovers and married people, remember?” My voice was cloudy and serious. “I have loved you all my life, Ethnan, and I feel the luckiest for being married to you. You are my beloved husband.” She gently pulled at my shirt and her toes stepped on mine. “Don't be unmindful, this girl!” I yanked her hand away and she sank onto the bed. “It's barely a week since I honored your family with such a great offer and you already forgot all of the important details? I see…you obviously do not have a retentive memory.” “I honestly don't understand any of this, my love.” She craned her head sideways. “Besides, it's our first night and we are supposed to be engaged in steamy love making by now, instead of all these confusing talks.” She lifted her face and her gaze fell on my chest. “My body yearns for you desperately.” I stepped backwards, clenching my fists hard enough to keep my temper in control. “See, I will address you as My Neighbor henceforth, and that's it.” “My love…” She started to speak again but my voice interrupted her. “You know what's at stake, so don't mess with me,” I shoved the door open. “Go back and peruse the damn document for your own good.” “Ethnan!” “Good night, My Neighbor.”
