As Emma came back to her father's bedroom, she couldn't help but wonder about the conversations she had with Ethan.
The way he'd looked at her, the tone he'd used when speaking of the operation. it felt as if part of him still cared, still felt something for her.
And no matter how much she tried to shake the idea from her head, she couldn't help but wonder if there was still hope for the two of them, hope for forgiveness and love.
But she knew better than to let herself indulge in such thoughts, not with her father's life hanging in the balance.
For now, she would focus on the present, on the job at hand. She would trust Ethan, support him, and be honest with him, as she had promised.
Entering her father's room, Emma found him wide awake, his eyes scanning hers as you entered. "Emma," he whispered, his voice weak but resolute. "Have you seen the doctor? What will it be?" He asked, worried.
Emma smiled reassuringly, putting his hand in hers. "Everything will be alright, Dad," she told him, her voice filled with conviction. "Ethan is going to perform the surgery, and he's the best."
He's going to take care of you, and you're going to be fine. I promise." Emma said reassuringly.
Her father's eyes met hers, and for an instant, she saw a flash of the stubborn, strong man he once was. "I trust you, Emma," he softly. "If you say everything is going to be okay, then I believe you." He added.
Emma, emotionally moved by what he had uttered, leaned forward and kissed his forehead. "I love you, Dad," she whispered. "And I'm not leaving your side until you get better." She said.
As she sat there, holding her father's hand in hers and watching the reassuring rhythm of his heart on the monitor, she felt peace seep into her soul.
No matter what obstacles lay ahead, she knew she could face them, as long as her father was there. And with Ethan's abilities and her unwavering support, she knew they would navigate this obstacle as a team.
