“I told you, didn’t I? I told you you’d get it. I had that strong conviction you would.” Ann said, feeling genuinely happy for her sister. “I’m glad I pushed you into applying.” “Honestly, sis. It seemed so easy. I walked in, answered a few questions and that was it. It didn’t even feel like an interview at all. Everything happened so fast,” Rosie said. “I just knew it. I had faith, and I'm so happy for you. Frankly, I felt skeptical when I saw the advertisement, but I believed you would get it,” Ann said. “But the CEO was kinda mean, though,” Rosie said abruptly. “What do you mean? What happened?” “Well, you know I told you that it was the President and the CEO that got me interviewed? It happened that the CEO is the heir to the AdriaBlooms empire. When they went through my documents, while his father showed his delight in my academic qualifications, he tried hiding his and kept a straight face. And even at the end of the interview when his father affirmed that I’d gotten the job, he gave me this very mean look and muttered Congratulations when I tried expressing my gratitude,” Rosie sighed. “Look, you don’t have to let that get to you. Don’t let that deter you. There’s only one way around this, and that’s making sure that you’re on your best behavior so he has nothing to blame you for,” Ann said. “But starting off with bad energy isn’t a good sign, sis. Don’t you think so?” Rosie asked, feeling a bit confused. “It could be that he was having a bad day, stop overthinking this, Rosie. Cheer up, girl! You just got a job at the biggest construction firm in the US. We should be celebrating,” Ann said, trying to lighten the mood. Rosie smiled. She felt a deep sense of gratitude to her sister for sticking with her through everything. “Honestly I owe this to you, sis. Thank you so much. I really appreciate everything you’ve done for me.” “For nothing, Rosie. You’re my sister, and that’s what family is for, looking out for each other,” Ann said smiling. She tickled Emilia, who joined in the laughter like she understood all that was going on. Rosie looked at her daughter. She’d finally be able to take proper care of her, give her everything she needed. She could now enroll her in a good school and give her a good life. She suddenly remembered something. “There’s one more thing, sis.” “What’s that?” “I wouldn’t want them to know that I've got a child. Remember what happened at my last job, and why I had to resign. This job is really important to me and I wouldn't want any incident to jeopardize it,” Rosie said. Ann understood. She remembered very well the ugly situation her sister had gone through in the hands of her colleagues at her former place of work. “It’s no problem, Rosie. I’ll handle Emilia. We’d have to register her at a daycare, and then I guess I'll have to close from work earlier henceforth so I'll be able to pick her up. We’ll be fine.” Ann reassured her sister. Rosie looked at her sister. “Thank you so much, sis. I love you.” She stood up and gave Ann a hug. “I love you too, Rosie. ********** Adrian was upset. All his father cared about was that he got married, not wanting to understand if he was ready for it or not. He’d given up on love a long time ago, after trying with three different ladies and none of them were fruitful. He’d discovered that he couldn’t just bring himself to love anybody, and in fact, the girls were there for his money anyway. He got tired of trying and instead channeled his energy into the continuous growth of his father’s firm and now, after 2 years of being single and celibate, his father was already pressuring him to get married. They’d had the argument countless times, heated arguments between him and his dad that left them being cold to each other for days on end, and this was one of those days. His father was yelling at him this time, while he sat silently in the sitting room, watching as his mum tried to pacify him. “What the hell is wrong with you? You are 33, a graduate, you’ve got a good job and you’re living a life of luxury. What’s your reason for not wanting to get married?” Mr Thomas hollered. “Dad, I can't just wake up and get into the streets and get married to any lady I find,” Adrian said but Mr Thomas wasn’t having any of it. “Then make a proper search for one!” Mr Thomas yelled. “Or do you want me to do that for you?” He was really upset this time. Mrs Thomas got up. “Darling, you need to calm down. Relax, please. We can’t solve this issue this way.” “You’ve got to talk to your son, woman!” “Dad, I seriously can’t get involved or possibly get married to someone I don't love. And honestly, love has got no place in my life right now,” Adrian said. “Nonsense! Did you hear me? Nonsense, I said. I don’t care how you go about it, but i give you two months to present a woman to me as your wife. Else, consider yourself stripped as the CEO and heir to the AdriaBlooms Empire,” Mr Thomas said with a note of finality. Adrian couldn’t believe his ears. “What?!” “Honey…” Mrs Thomas started. “What do you mean, Dad?” Adrian asked, looking at his father in utter disbelief. “You heard me right. Get yourself a wife in two months, or forget about AdriaBlooms. And if you’d excuse me, I've got a meeting to attend,” Mr Thomas said and stormed out.
