Ugh, it's too early for this.
It was 7:30 in the morning and my friend Moriah was calling me. We would always call each other before school started to talk. It was really pointless since we didn't go out much. The only time I was really allowed to go out was when I was studying or shopping with Moriah . Other than that, I wasn't allowed to leave the house on my own so much. But why is she calling me? We didn't go to the same school anymore so I didn't really understand why she was calling. I lazily picked up the phone and answered with my eyes closed since I was still real tired. I didn't get much sleep last night.
"Hello?" I said lazily
"Morning Caroline, I just wanted to check on you since you know, your at a new school and all"
I immediately sat up and started to feel bad for not wanting to answer her call.
"Oh uh, yeah I'm fine...I just have to get used to being at a new school and new house. Hopefully I get over it soon though."
"I can't imagine your life sometimes you know? Having to move all the time, leaving people behind. And getting used to a new bed. That must be a real struggle."
I giggled at her joke and stood up.
"Yeah it's a humongous problem trying to get used to my rock hard bed." I joked
"That's good to know, maybe I'll send you a puppy to comfort you when you sleep. Then every time you hug the puppy, you'll think of me" She said cheerfully
"That would be nice."
"OH s**t" I heard someone scream on the phone
"Moriah was that you?"
"NOT Moriah, just me you blockhead!"
It was my other friend Cassidy. She was always so energetic. She kept me and Moriah in a good mood.
"Hey Cass, sorry I didn't recognize your voice, I just woke up" I said yawning
"It's alright girl, just go brush your teeth and go to school."
Oh shit
School
Homework
I gotta do my homework!
"Guys I have to go do my homework for school, we can call later okay?"
"Yeah sure, go do your thing Mrs Straight A student." Cassidy said
"Yeah just call us later" Moriah said
"Okay guys, bye"
"Byeeeee!" They said in unison.
I hung up the phone and went to go get my homework that I had to do. Luckily school didn't start until 9:30. I had almost 2 hours to finish my work and get ready for school. That should be enough time for me.
Almost 2 hours later
Done!
Finally!
Now I had to hurry and get ready before I leave for school. I wore a black skirt that went down to my knees, white leggings under my skirt, a long sleeve white shirt, and flats. It was nothing amazing, but it was decent for a school day. I looked out the window to see what the weather was like, to know if I should grab a sweater or not, and of course it was warm and sunny outside. As I was about to pull back from the curtains on the window, I saw something out of the left side of my window. I saw a person jogging down the street. It was the boy I saw yesterday. He was running again past my house. Was him jogging apart of his daily routine? I watched him run as I was standing in my window. He had on a black sweater and his hood on again. Once he started to make a turn, I pulled back from the window to continue getting ready for school. I grabbed my books and my bag and headed downstairs.
"Hey dad, is mom taking me to school today?"
My dad was sitting there drinking coffee reading something on his phone
"Morning sweetie, and no she isn't taking you there, she had to leave early to finish off some work with some clients."
"Oh that's okay I can walk from here"
"Thank you Caroline, I would take you but our new office building is kind of far from here, and I have to leave soon. I want to be on time for the first day."
"I can make it there fast dad don't worry. I have to go, I don't want to be late either. I'll see you later."
"Later sweetie, have a good day. I'll be there to pick you up after school." He said giving me a hug
"Okay, bye daddy"
I closed the door and locked it. I started to walk down the road, and then suddenly I got hit by something and my two textbooks dropped on the floor. I immediately went to pick them up
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to get in your way." I apologized
"Watch out next time b***h" the man said coldly and kept running down the street
Wait, that was the boy I keep seeing jog down my street. That was rude of him. All he had to do was say he was sorry. It's not hard. I couldn't see his face too much. He had his hood on. But his voice was deep and soft at the same time. I didn't understand how deep and soft could mix, but maybe they can go together I guess.
After I picked up my books, I continued to walk toward the school, and after 10 minutes of walking, I finally made it. It was a real short walk and I enjoyed it. It gave me a change to admire the look off the neighborhood and streets I passed by. I can say that It was a very pleasant place to move to after all.
I walked into the school and I had a few minutes left before I my first class started, so I decided to explore the campus. Mostly just the classrooms and other rooms used for multiple activities. After a couple of minutes of looking around I made my way to class. I was always early to class, it was just a habit of mine. I made it there and went inside. It was a big classroom. I liked the blue walls. It was different than the typical white and beige most schools have. I sat down and prepared my things in front of me. After a few minutes of everyone settling in and the teacher getting ready to teach, Mr. Steiner, my history teacher started to call out names to check to see who was in class or not. When it came to my name I said 'here' and everyone looked at me. I was new, so I understand their confusion.
"Oh so your the new girl?" Mr. Steiner said
"Yes I am"
"Well then welcome, I know you'll be one of our top performers this year considering what I saw on your transcript" He said with a smile on his face
"I appreciate it Mr. Steiner"
He took one more glance my way before he went back to calling out names. He called out someone's name but he wasn't here.
"Next on the list.. Ezekiel?"
No answer
"Ezekiel...?"
No answer again
Mr. Steiner sighed
"What else is new." He said
Wow, this kid must miss a lot of class if the teacher is so frustrated about his attendance.
We went through class and it was simple, almost too simple. I guess the academics are a bit easier here. After a few more classes it was time for lunch. My mom had made me lunch like always. She wanted me to eat healthy. I didn't like it at first but I got used to it after a while and actually found a few things that I enjoy eating. I sat inside and started to pull out the fruit that my mother had packed. She gave me watermelon and berries today. When I took a bite of a strawberry I noticed two people walk in the cafeteria and everyone was just staring at them or looking away. One of them had his hood on and the other was wearing a long sleeve black t-shirt with jeans. He had a tattoo on his neck. They walked in like they owned the place. I just went back to eating my strawberry though.
The one in the black t-shirt whispered something as they walked passed me.
"She's new" He said quietly to the guy with the hood on.
They made their way to the lunch bar where you could buy whatever you wanted for lunch. They just cut to the front of the line and started grabbing stuff without paying. One of the men working behind the counter spoke to them for this.
"Hey, you guys know you have to pay right?"
They just ignored him and kept looking for stuff they wanted to eat.
"Hey! You have to pay" He said with a loud firm voice.
At this point most of the people in the room were looking in their direction
The man behind the counter came out and started to get in their faces.
" Hey, I said.. ugh!"
The guy with the hood knocked him flat on his back. I had never seen someone get hit so hard in their face before. Everyone was just looking, but I gasped. I had never seen so much violence at my last school. People didn't just break out into fights. People were looking at me for the sound I had made. The guy with the black shirt walked over to me.
"Got something to say?"
" N..n...no I don't, I just..." I was so freaked out that I couldn't answer. Violence was so scary to me. I didn't like to be around it. And when he started to walk up to me I didn't know what to do and it was hard for me to speak, so I kept stuttering.
"Hehe, scary ass girl" He laughed and then started to walk away.
Him and his friend left, and I was just sitting there with my heart beating 1000 miles per hour.
I closed the lid to the container for my berries and left the cafeteria. I started to explore the school more and eventually classes came to end. Before I started my homework, I went by the gym inside the school. It was a real nice and air conditioned gym. There was also a lot of equipment for a school gym. I went inside and saw the gym teacher there. I assume he was a gym teacher because he was sitting behind a desk while listening to music.
"Hello, do you run the gym?"
"Greetings, umm, sorry I don't recognize you. But to answer your question, yes I do run the gym. Your welcome to come in any time you want."
" I appreciate it, I just might come in here sometimes for the treadmill."
"Okay then it's settled. I have some work to get to but I hope to see you in here sometimes. Everyone should exercise a little."
"I'll come by, I promise. " I said with a smile.
"Okay then, have a nice afternoon"
"You too, bye" I said then left.
I walked by looking at the different things that people could do in the gym. I was walking by and I saw the boys from earlier in the cafeteria lifting weights. The guy with the hood from earlier was lifting on the bench while the other guy with the black shirt was using the dumbbells to lift. The guy with the hood was so muscular. His arms were covered in sweat and the muscle in his arms were bursting out from his skin. He was wearing a hooded tank top and had his hood on like earlier in the cafeteria. This explained why his punch has so much strength to it. He must lift so often. The guys at my old school didn't lift weights like that. I stared at him while he lifted, and when he was putting the weights back on the bar, he took a glance my way and I quickly started to leave because I didn't want him to catch me looking at him. I started to go and head outside so I can start on my work before my dad came and picked me up from school.
After about 30 minutes, I heard someone cussing and I picked up my head to see what was going on. It was a girl with black hair. She was cussing at the paper in front of her. I saw a calculator in her hand and went over to see if I could help in any way.
"Hey um, excuse me, do you need help with your work?" I said
"Oh, uh no, I'm fine, I'm just a bit frustrated that's all." She said back to me
"You know I'm in an advanced calculus class. I'm real good at it, if you need help I can help you."
"Um well, do you know how to graph quadratic equations?"
"Yes I do, I can help you if you like" I said with my hands interlaced in front of me
"Well I would appreciate it, only if you would be willing to help me."
"Yes of course I'd be willing to help you. I'm Caroline by the way" I stated happily
"Ally, nice to meet you" She said while sticking her hand out so I could shake it.
I took her hand and shook it. Then I pulled up a chair so we could get to work. It felt good to help others. I liked knowing that I could help make someone else's life easier. Maybe I should become a tutor. I would get to help many other people that way. That's something I can consider.
After another 30 minutes went by, it was time for me to go, but luckily I had helped Ally with her work, and she understood it better than before.
"Thank your so much for your help Caroline, that was real kind of you." She said with a huge smile on her face
"It was my pleasure." I said waving bye to her
'See you later" she said finally before I went to the parking lot where my dad was parked. I immediately got in the car and my dad greeted me.
"Hey sweetie, how was your first day here?" He greeted me with
"It was fine. I got to help someone with their work so that made my day a bit better."
"I heard there was an incident at lunch and someone got hit. Do you know anything about that?"
My dad bringing this up reminded me of how scared and nervous I was when the guy came up to me. The thought alone scared me.
"Umm yeah, someone got hit. Just, some altercation happened and someone got hit."
"I'm just glad you won't in the middle of that. I couldn't imagine you getting into a fight. Was everything besides that all right at school?"
"Yes dad it was fine, no need to worry."
The rest of the way home we rode in silence with the radio on. Once we got inside I went to my mother and hugged her. I hadn't seen her since last night since she left early to work this morning.
"Hey mom, I missed you leave out this morning.'
"I know honey but unfortunately I had to leave early. But did you like the things in your lunch?"
"Yes mom they were wonderful"
I kind of lied. I didn't like lying to my parents, it made me feel like a disobedient child. The reason I lied thought is because I couldn't tell my parents that I barely ate because of me being scared out of my mind in the lunch room.
"Okay well I'm getting dinner ready. I'll let you know when it is ready."
"Okay mom thanks"
After we talked I went upstairs to call Moriah. I wanted to tell her about everything that happened at school today. I tried calling her and after 3 rings she finally picked up.
"Hello? Caroline?" she asked to make sure I was there
"Hey, you asked me to call you later so I did." I said
"Yes I did. So what's up, anything interesting happen at school, or is it just as boring as it is here?"
"Very unboring. Except for classes. They are way too easy. I'm surprised they teach kids this stuff. It's so simple."
"I mean you are the queen of academics. Name someone smarter than you."
"I don't want to brag my academic skills. Everyone is at their own level and we all still have to grow."
"Your too nice and peaceful for your own good you know?"
Yeah yeah whatever, is Cassidy there so I don't have to explain this twice?"
"Right here girl!" Cassidy screamed through the phone
"Okay so listen guys, school was boring for the most part, but then at lunch, there were these two guys who came in and they were the most brooding guys ever. Everyone just stares at them and they look like they are always in a bad mood. Anyway, they cut the line for food and didn't pay for any of it. After that, someone told them they had to pay and he got punched and landed on his ass like a baby. I've never seen someone get hit so hard ever. And I helped someone with their work which was the best part of the day."
They didn't say anything for a few seconds. It was like they were trying to process what I had just mentioned about the cafeteria incident. After awhile Cassidy finally said something.
"Were the guys hot?" she asked curiously
"Cassidy, out of everything I just told you, your first thought is to ask if the guys were hot or not?"
"It's a liable question. I am genuinely curious to know if the guys are good looking."
"I mean it's a valid question" Moriah stated
"Not you too Moriah" I sighed
"Just answer the question girl" Moriah said
"Well one of them had their hood on, so I couldn't really get a good look at him. And the other was fairly good looking ,but that doesn't matter. So we don't have to speak about it anymore."
"Fine fine, Cassidy said."
"How was helping the other person? Fun, boring, guy or girl, details." Moriah said
"She was a girl and her name is Ally. She seemed really nice and appreciative that I helped her."
"That's nice,. Maybe you guys should study more often together if she appreciates your help that much." Moriah said
"I'll take that into consideration. I have to go shower though, so maybe we can talk another time alright guys?"
"Alright girl, whatever you say. See you later" Moriah said
"Bye girl" Cassidy said
"See ya guys" I hung up the phone
After I hung up, I looked at the time and noticed that it was still fairly early and that it was going to be awhile before dinner. So I decided to take a bath instead and relax. I liked taking bath's because it gave me a chance to relax, and sit on my phone, or read a book while I was relaxing.
After I finished up I headed downstairs to eat my supper. While we were eating my mom had mentioned a*****e being robbed near us. Apparently it was only a convenient store and nothing major, but still, that wasn't a good thing to do to someone. I finished and got under my covers on my phone in hopes that I would become tired. After awhile my mind went back to what happened earlier in the cafeteria. It was embarrassing and it bothered me that I had gotten so scared when he walked up to me. I didn't want to feel that again. I slowly started to fall asleep, and in my mind, all I could tell myself was to not let that happen ever again.
