JOURNEY NORTH Rylan's POV We experienced how five days of travel could turn everything you take for granted about the world on its head. The scenery changed slowly and drastically. Thick woodlands gave place to thin. Then to rolling tundra. Then a vast arctic wasteland that extended to the limit of vision in every direction. The temperature dropped steadily. From a temperature cool enough in autumn, to bitter coldness that stung through jackets and the fur of animals. My hybrid nature helped. My temperature regulation was better than even that of the average wolf. Yet even I felt the northern chill. Kiera biked on the other side of me, wrapped in fur skins that Fenrir forced us to take. Her breath misted in the air. Her face was rosy from the wind and chill. But her eyes stayed sharp.
