Doc's hands moved in a blur, pumping Kai's chest. Once. Twice. Three times.
Nothing.
"Come on, kid," Doc muttered, sweat beading on his forehead. "Come on."
I couldn't breathe. Couldn't think. The world had narrowed to my son's blue lips and the horrible flatline screaming from the monitor.
Rylan grabbed the defibrillator from the wall. "Clear!"
"Wait," Doc started, but Rylan was already moving. The paddles touched Kai's chest, and the world exploded.
A shockwave of pure energy erupted from Kai's small body. It hit me like a freight train, throwing me backward into the wall. The windows shattered. Medical equipment flew across the room. The heart monitor exploded in a shower of sparks.
Through the chaos, I saw him. My son. Kai's eyes snapped
