FREEDOM & FIRE Kiera's POV There was a slight hiss as the door to my cell opened without warning. No footsteps. No voices. Nothing but the dull mechanical noises of locks being unsealed. I stiffened waiting for guards, looking for Dr. Chen, ready for whatever they’d try next to break me. But no one came. I waited, my heart pounding. Then I felt it. My neck in the suppression collar. It was vibrating. Humming. The metal began to heat up against my skin and then, just like that, it clicked open and slid away. It came to the floor with a clatter that rang out like freedom.
