Everything happened in seconds. Lady Morrow charged at Kai. Massive. Ancient. Unstoppable. Her claws extended. Her jaws opened. Her killing intent was pure and unadulterated.
Kiera and I were too far. Moving but not fast enough. Time stretched. I saw Kai's face. Terror. Acceptance. He believed he was going to die.
Then Marcus moved.
He broke his chains. The metal shattered like glass. His body was broken. Barely functional. But he only inserted himself between Lady Morrow and Kai.
