"You're lying."
Rylan's voice was deadly calm, but I could feel the rage building inside him through the bond. The surrounding air shimmered with barely contained power.
Mara stood her ground. "I wish I was. But Marcus is alive, and he's been playing dead for five years while building an army."
"Marcus died in the challenge," Rylan said through gritted teeth. "I killed him myself. I watched him take his last breath."
"Did you?" Mara challenged. "Or did you watch him fall and assume he was dead? Because someone dragged his body away before you could confirm the kill. Someone who wanted everyone to believe the former Alpha was gone."
