Seraphine’s POV
They were looking at her differently. I noticed it before anyone said a word. Before the murmurs started shifting. Before the elders began adjusting their tone. It was subtle.
But I saw it. The way their gazes followed her. Not with suspicion anymore. Not entirely. Something else had slipped in. Something far more dangerous.
My fingers tightened slightly against the armrest of the chair.
“She shouldn’t be there.” The voice came from across the chamber.
But not quiet enough. I didn’t turn immediately. Didn’t react. I let the words sit. Let them breathe.
