Falsely Accused

Chapter Three.

It’s been five more months in this prison and if I said that it’s a happy day for me, I’d be lying. I am really sad because Rue is finally going away. One funny thing she is not excited about her freedom as most people would do.

Her term is over and she has to leave.

‘’Cheer up Nada, I promise this is not a goodbye but a see you soon.’’

‘’Are you sure you are not going to forget about me, Rue?’’

‘’Are you going to doubt me little girl?’’ she asks and I shake my head, she deserves my trust she has proven that I can trust her without a doubt. She has earned it.

‘’I trust you, Rue. I trust your word.’’ I say politely.

 ‘’Good girl.’’ She says with the sweet smile written all over her face.

There is a new bumblebee in the prison and she is terrorizing my life. I don’t know what to do about it because all the time I report it I realize it gets worse.

Recently I overheard them talking about accomplishing their goal and trust me I would like to know what their goal is but I have a self-quote.

What I don’t know doesn’t hurt at all.

I turn to look at Rue and I realize the façade she’s putting up isn’t her real, she is hurting as much as I am. The demeanour that she puts up is artificial.

She always stays very calm and humble but deep inside something is hurting her.

‘’Young girl!’’ I call startling her.

‘’What can I do for you baby girl?’’

‘’I want to know what is bothering you,’’ I tell her softly.

‘’There’s nothing …’’

‘’Don’t even dare Rue, it has been more than eight months of stay and I would like to know what exactly is your problem,’’ I tell her sternly and she shakes her head.

‘’Sure girl I am going to tell you.’’

‘’I am listening.’’

 ‘’Before I came here, I had a boyfriend. I have been here for eight months and more without ever hearing from him.’’ She says sadly and I listen keenly without interrupting. He made me drink and rob money from people in a club. I thought he loved me, only to realize he only wanted the money. Many are the times I stole money from dad just to give him. I am thinking he must be the one who set me up with the police.

‘’What could have been his motive?’’

‘’I wouldn’t know. Maybe he did this so that I could get out of his way.’’ She is truly sad and that’s making me sad as well.

We are that attached and every time one of us is sad we feel it within our hearts.

‘’Hey don’t be sad now. He will come around.’’

 ‘’I don’t want him to, being here has opened my eyes and I know I know I have learnt my lesson.’’ I move closer to give her a hug.

 She has learnt her lesson and that’s very important.

‘’What will you do if he approaches you again?’’

 ‘’I will tell him to go to hell. I have no heart to accommodate someone who doesn’t love me. If he was ever there for me it would have been a different story but this is a different case.’’

 ‘’Well, I am here for you. I know I cannot do much but at least I am here to listen.’’

‘’Thanks, baby girl. Now, enough of me. What will you do while I am gone?’’

‘’Replace you maybe?’’ I say with a shrug.

 ‘’I dare you!’’ she says feigning seriousness and I smile at her.

 ‘’I am kidding Rue, that can never happen.’’ She smiles sweetly.

 She is the only friend I have here and since I have to be here for almost four years to come, I know it’s going to be challenging but all in all, God will take care of me.

‘’Rue Jayson!’’ An officer calls and we turn in the direction of the sound.

‘’I knew you were kidding. Be careful with everyone, do not trust anyone Nada or I will chop your ass.’’

‘’Alright mum, I will.’’ When I say that jokingly I feel my head pounding like crazy.

 ‘’I am not kidding Nada, take care of yourself. You and I will have to find Neal’s killers.’’

‘’Thank you,’’ I say and we meet in a tight hug.

 ‘’I love you, Nada.’’

‘’You do?’’ I ask surprised.

 ‘’So much. Be safe in here okay?’’

 ‘’I will.’’

‘’I will find a way to tell you bye okay?’’ she says and I nod. I don’t have the strength to speak anymore

She walks slowly towards the officer but turns to give me a pitiful look. She knows very well that’s not what we need for now but she goes ahead to do it. Then she disappears.

 There is a big gobbet forming in my throat but my principle remains. I am not crying before all these people.

I drag myself lazily to the bed and sit at the same time when the current bumblebee walks towards my bed.

 My head is buried between my palms when I hear a voice speak

 ‘’Finally.’’ She says dramatically and I lift my head.

‘’What do you want?’’

 ‘’You.’’

 ‘’As you can see, I am here.’’

‘’I want us to be friends.’’ What does she have up her sleeves?

 ‘’Cut the crap, Linda! Tell me what you want already!’’

‘’Cool, I didn’t know you could be that authoritative.’’

 ‘’You know practically nothing about me.’’

‘’Says the person who is being blamed for her boyfriend’s death. The one that lost both her parents in a grisly road accident, the second daughter to her parents. Sister to Naomi and the person who’s uncles...’’

‘’Stop!’’ I lift up my hand in a bid to stop her.

‘’How do you know all that?’’

Because I am a Miss Know it All. (MKA) so if you will just partner with me and I will save you from the rest of the vultures.

I look at her with a headshake, she is being sarcastic in this whole issue but as it goes she is here now.

 Keep your friend close and your enemies closer, it is okay to be her friend so that I can disclose her evil plans.

 ‘’Can I ask you why you know so much about me and why you just approached me now when we have been with you here for so long?’’

Because I don’t like that b***h who walks around you as if she owns you.’’

 ‘’Be careful with whatever you say about Rue, she is the best person that I know.’’

 ‘’Okay, your highness.’’ She tells me sarcastically.

‘’Your way of humour sucks.’’

 ‘’I know right? Anyway, on the very first question don’t worry about why I know so much about you, you will find that out soon enough.’’

 What is really her problem? She cannot be talking badly of my friend then tells me how she wants to be friends with me and then she knows my whole life in one sentence and now here she is again saying I will find out soon why she knows me.

 What the hell?

 I act quickly, I don’t want to make uninformed decisions, I, want to be sure of what I want and how I want it. I have suffered so much in the past few months that I wonder how long this would last.

 ‘’Alright, what should I do?’’

‘’Be my friend.’’

‘’Just like that?’’

 ‘’What else would there be?’’

 ‘’Wouldn’t you want to be paid or something?’’

 ‘’No I don’t!’’ she says sternly and I regret all over again being in here, it’s not my fault that I fell in love with Neal.

 He was charming and cute. He was hot and tempting. He walked around humbly and trust me I couldn’t tell at first that he had all the money in the world or rather that his parents were filthy rich.

 He stood with me even after my parents’ death and cleared my arrears in school.

 It wasn’t me, I am being falsely accused. I couldn’t have had any motives to kill him.

 I will avenge your death Neal, I will. Trust me if the dead can hear then Neal should hear me say I am going to avenge him.

 Soon enough.

 ‘’Linda, I hear you and I am in,’’ I tell her and I can’t help but notice the evil smirk on her lips.

‘’Now we are talking. I will be back.’’

 She says and walks away.

 ‘’Nada!’’ someone calls and I realize that it’s the prison warden.

I stand up and walk hastily towards her.

 ‘’You have a visitor.’’ She says and starts to walk away. I follow her without questioning and when I get to the waiting area, Rue is standing there with what I assume is her whole family.

 She has changed into a beautiful dress. She moves forward and hugs me.

‘’Meet my family, Nada.’’ I feel happy for her but sad for me when she mentions family. Why did I have to lose my parents?

Why did everyone have to turn against me?

 I walk towards the dad, he knows me by now.

 ‘’I have been given exactly thirty minutes to talk to you.’’

‘’Sure I am here.’’

 ‘’I am going to try and appeal your case, I don’t think you are here rightfully.’’ My heart leaps and I feel overly excited.

 ‘’Thank you, sir,’’ I say happily and the excitement is evident.

‘’You are welcome. Just be as much discrete as you can about it.’’ He says and I nod at him.

I say hi to everyone and the warden comes back to tell me that my time is up and she takes me back to hell.

I say a quick bye to Rue and she promises to come by regularly after making me promise to take good care of myself.

There is hell on earth and the prison is a good symbol of hell.

When I get inside, Linda is sleeping on my bed and when I ask her to move as polite as I can master, she jumps up and with all her energy pushes me and I hit my big head on another bed.

 I knew she was lying when she told me that she wanted us to be friends.

I pull myself lazily and walk towards my bed.

 ‘’I will be going to get you food, don’t you ever leave that bed.’’ She says and I wonder what she is planning.

 She comes with my food and she stands there watching and forcing me to eat the food.

The sharp sudden bang in my stomach wrings my intestines like a double-edged sword and I writhe in pain.

 I don’t know if I will ever survive this.

I may as well join Neal wherever he is. God knows it is not my idea but I don’t have an option.

 No choice completely.
