Evangeline's POV:
I sighed as I sipped caffeine for the umpteenth time today. I looked over at the pale body still hanging between life and death. The last days has been hard for me and I can feel my body lose itself to exhaustion. I tilted my head towards the door as a sharp knock resonated through the room. I glared at the door and waited for that man. He was late again. And this time by a few hours. His carelessness and cool attitude is pissing me off to no limits.
The room was silent and only a weak heartbeat could be heard. I opened the window and let the moonlight illuminate the room. She looked like an angel in the darkness of the room. Pity filled my heart upon seeing the little girl. Why did the Moon Goddess choose her to be the unlucky girl? She clearly deserves all the happiness in the world. I looked at him in pure anger and he looked up at my face.
"What happened? I just had work to do." Explained my brother calmly.
"Your work is more important than her? How could you leave her there?"
"Now she's ok-"Is she okay? Look at her." I interrupted.
"And listen here one thing. You have to take responsibility for her as an Alpha and as a mate. You brought her here so take care of her. If you don't have time, then make time for her."
"She's not more important than my work."
"But she is a part of you. She is given to you by Moon Goddess and you have to take care of her because she will be the Luna of this pack one day. She is the priority. You have to handle both together."
"But you're here to see her."
"That doesn't mean that you won't. You also have to because she is important to you and the pack. It is your fault that she is here. She could've died that day. Hell, she still can die anytime. What will you do at that time? How will you take responsibility for the damages to the pack? There is no other problem here or no complex situation. You're to be blamed for everything. "
"It is not that big of a deal."
"Are you serious? Do you know how painful the heat is for a woman especially someone who has the strongest Lycan for a mate? It feels like every bone of your body is breaking again and again. And you not staying close to her caused all of this. She was dying in her own blood when I got there. There was blood coming out of her mouth. The future Luna of Lycans doesn't deserve to be treated like this not here not anywhere. "
For some reason he stayed silent after that. I am furious because he could have felt little of her pain and he would have a idea about how much she was hurting but he still did not go. He had taken heartlessness to a new level. Celestine has been hanging on the thread for the last seven days and he has stayed in this hospital for only half an hour total. My brother was never this shameless. I squeezed her hand and prayed the Moon Goddess to help her. She has no right to be punished. It is not her fault that she is weak. Fate has played a joke on them. My Lycan was sad too because Celestine was one of the most innocent people we've ever seen in our very very long life.
"You are going to stay here no matter what." I glared at Lucian. He was silently looking at the window all this time thinking that I was finished with him. He looked at me like a deer caught in headlights.
"I'll stay." He said seriously, surprising me.
Lucian's POV :
I was feeling guilty for leaving her alone that day after what happened. I didn't want us to cross a line. I felt all the pain she was feeling and every cell of my body was urging me to run to her and pull her in my arms. But I forced myself to train with everyone because I didn't want to behave like I care. But I forgot that she is my Luna whether I like it or not. She is my responsibility and I have to everything where a mate is needed. Loving her or not is my decision but making her stay alive is not a choice. I'll just try to be good to her and treat her like a pack member.
And the truth was that she needed me now. Her small, pale frame was calling me towards her. My hands itched to touch her face as my Lycan sulked inside my head. The last few days he howled in agony due to the condition of his mate and cursed me in every way possible. Her heartbeat was slower than normal and it was true that it could stop any minute. For some reason, the thought made a hollow inside me. I slowly sat on the side of her bad and looked at her chest heaving up and down slowly. I tucked some loose strands of her hair behind her ear and my hand started caressing her cheek on its own. My other hand gripped her palm tightly and raised it to my lips. My lips lightly touched her cold skin as I mumbled, "Get well soon, Celestine."
*
The last three days I've been sitting here the entire night looking at her and trying to understand what is right. Her face brightens when the moonlight falls on it. She looks so beautiful that I can't get the image out of head the entire day. I wish I had been a good mate and just done what was important at that time. Our pack doctor also didn't know why she wasn't waking up thought the colour on her face was returning. My eyes roamed over her lips then her pale rosy cheeks and then her eyes. My Lycan yelped in joy as her eyes were open and they widened as they saw me before hate and anger filled them. Not wanting to give any explanation or say anything, I left the room.
