*Raven’s POV*
I was tossing and turning, trying desperately to fall asleep, but it was no use. I couldn’t help but worry and wonder about the situation Adam had gotten himself into this time. My heart was racing as my entire being was consumed with fear. I couldn’t help but wonder if what I had in my savings wasn’t enough to help Adam this time.
I wanted to know everything about this loan situation. Who he borrowed from. How long they gave him to pay it back. I wanted to know everything. Of course, Adam promised to tell me everything tomorrow. Tomorrow couldn’t come soon enough...
I sighed heavily after laying there for another thirty minutes before I decided it was pointless. Frustrated, I breathed a heavy sigh as I pulled the covers from my body, pulling myself up and walking to the kitchen.
I walked past Adam, fast-asleep on the couch. His debt problems obviously didn’t bother him nearly as much as it did me. He was snoring, cuddled up with my pillow without a care in the world.
I shook my head with a slight smile as I made my way into the kitchen and turned the light on, glancing at the clock. 1:30 in the morning, great. There was no way I was going to get any sleep tonight...
I grabbed a mug from the cabinet and began making myself some tea. I filled the mug with water and put it in the microwave, grabbing and opening the tea bag. As I grabbed the hot mug of water from the microwave, I heard noises outside of my door. I listened carefully for a second before the sound disappeared completely. I shrugged it off and finished making my tea before taking a sip.
Suddenly, a noise so loud startled me, as I looked up to watch the front door fly off the hinges and fall to the ground. I screamed and dropped my mug, letting it shatter on the ground and splattering the tea everywhere. Adam jumped up from the couch, startling awake as three men entered my living room.
Two bulky men stormed into my living room, followed by a tall handsome man who looked oddly familiar. I kept staring at the third man, trying to figure out why he looked so familiar, but the doorway was too dark. I was too startled to care further.
“What the hell is going on!? Who are you!?” I asked, trying to hold my composure, but my fear was quickly setting in. I looked at all three men and back at Adam, waiting for someone to respond but no one said anything.
Glancing back at Adam, I noticed his face was pale and his hands were shaking. He definitely knew this people, but what was this about?
"Adam, Adam, Adam.." The familiar man tsked, choosing to ignore my questions. He didn't even spare me a glance. Both his and his men's eyes were trained on Adam.
"Mr. Black..I c-can explain...Please...I just need a little more time and I can g-get the money to you.."
The familiar man Adam called Mr. Black began shaking his head with a sinister grin plastered on his face.
"You haven't made a payment in months and you expect me to just give you more time without a consequence?" He nodded towards his men who both stepped forward towards Adam, one man grabbed him by both arms while the other punched him hard in the stomach.
I lunged forward, grabbing onto one of the men in an attempt to get him to stop. "Stop! Please!" I yelled as the man grabbed me and pushed me aside, causing me to fall to the ground, before he turned back to punch Adam again. Adam took a punch to the face, causing him to spit up blood before he was hit again.
"STOP! Please!" I turned to the man called Mr. Black and proceeded to plead to get his men to stop. "I can pay you!"
That seemed to get his attention because he immediately held his hand up for his men to stop. They maintained their position with Adam, but stopped hitting him while Mr. Black turned his attention to me.
As he took a step towards me, stepping further into the light, I realized where I knew him from, why he looked so familiar. I knew I had seen him before.
"You..." I say with shock clear on my face. "You were the man at the law office today..."
He smiled in response, as if he already knew who I was. "I prefer to be called Mr. Black," he chuckled, seeming to be enjoying all of this. I gave him a disgusted look in response.
I quickly connected the dots and turned from Adam, back to Mr. Black. "You're the one my brother owes money to?" I asked, some of my confusion being resolved.
He nodded in confirmation. "Your brother owes me a lot of money.." he started. I swallowed hard, knowing it was going to take a miracle to get us out of this mess.
"I can pay you some of it now...Just please, don't hurt him again.." I pleaded.
"How much are we talking?" he asked, taking another step forward, causing me to take a slight step back.
"I have thirty thousand. You can have all of it. I can get you the rest, but I j-just need t-time. I just don't have all of it right now..."
"Little girl, you have no idea who you are dealing with, do you?" He said as he took another step towards me, taunting me, as my entire body shivered in fear. I stood in front of him, desperately trying to keep my composure. I didn't want him to think I was scared. That's exactly what he wanted.
"You think I came all the way here to settle for thirty thousand dollars?" He laughed out loud before looking me directly in my eyes with his most serious stare.
"I'm either leaving here with all of my one hundred thirty thousand dollars or your brother in a body bag." My heart clenched in my chest at the indication that I could lose my brother over this...He was the only family I had left. I couldn't let that happen.
"B-but I don't have all of it...Please, just give me some time and I can get you the money!" I begged, hoping he would give me a break, but I knew the chances of that were slim.
He shook his head with a sinister laugh before motioning to his men. They grabbed Adam to lift him up and carry him out.
"Wait!" I jumped forward, grabbing onto Silas' arm, pleading for him to stop.
"Please, I'll do anything! Just please...let him go!" I desperately pleaded as tears flooded my face.
He held up his hand to stop his men and they froze in place, with a good grip on Adam.
"Ok...I'll give you one alternative," he suggested, causing me to nod incessantly. I would do anything, anything to save Adam.
"I'll trade Adam's debt, everything he owes me....for you." My breath caught in my throat, my eyes drew back with a look of confusion painted on my face. He couldn't possibly mean what I thought he did....Silas seemed to read me well because he continued to explain as I stood there, frozen.
"If you come with me and be mine in whatever capacity I choose, your brother's debt will be resolved." My mouth instantly dropped at his insinuation. His words meant exactly what I thought they did. I had heard correctly. He wants me to be his? His what? What did that imply? I had so many questions, but I couldn't process everything so clearly with my heart beating out of my chest and very little time to think.
"M-me? Why would you want me?" I asked, still confused my the suggestion. I took a beat before I asked another question, "What would I have to do?.." I couldn't believe I was actually considering this, but I knew I didn't have much of a choice.
"We can talk about the details later, but you would basically do anything and everything I ask you to do. No questions asked." The thought of that absolutely terrified me. His demands could be endless...there was no line. I had no ground, no room to negotiate.
"B-but I..." I looked around with tears in my eyes, overwhelmed by everything that was happening. I would lose everything, my job, my apartment, my freedom...
Before I could officially respond, Silas motioned for his men to take Adam out. His men were grabbing Adam as I stepped forward to interject. "Stop!" I shouted and the men let go of Adam as Silas turned his attention to me.
"P-please, just stop. I will do it.." I admitted, realizing there was no other way out of this for Adam. He needed me to do this for him. I would always protect my brother...even if it one day costed me my life. As long as Adam was ok, I could live with that.
"Rae, NO!" Adam yelled as he tried to step forward, but the men stopped him.
"It's ok, Adam." I nodded, in an attempt to console him of my decision. I looked over at Adam's pleading face once more before looking back at Silas.
"Please, just promise me nothing will happen to Adam," I begged as fresh tears left my eyes. I couldn't imagine my world without my brother. I knew I had to do this. For both of us.
"You have my word. Adam will not be harmed and his debt will be forgiven...If you come with me, now." I gulped hard, absolutely terrified of what I had gotten myself in.
"D-don't I get to change first?" I asked, looking down at my exposed body in my lose-fitting night gown that barely reached my knees.
"You can change once we get back to my estate." His demeanor told me there was no room for negotiations so I slowly nodded and moved towards Silas, knowing I had no other option. He grabbed a tight hold of my upper arm as he passed me to his men. They both grabbed me by the arm and pushed me forward, towards the entryway.
"Wait! Don't I get to say goodbye to my brother?" I pleaded as tears continued to streak down my face. I turned around, looking for Adam as I was ushered out of the apartment.
"That wasn't part of the deal," Silas responded in a cold tone, as the men never stopped pushing me forward.
I managed to turn back and get one last glance of Adam before he was completely out of view. "Rae!" he yelled at the same time I yelled,"Adam, I love you!" They rushed me out of the doorway and down the stairs where his black SUV was waiting.
Silas followed close behind as the men dragged me down the stairs and shoved me inside the SUV. Silas slid in next to me with one of his men on my other side. The other man took the front seat as Silas spoke to the driver. "Go," he said, causing the driver to speed off into the night.
I clasped my hands together in my lap, in attempt to calm myself as tears continued to streak down my face. I looked out of the window the entire drive, wondering what I had gotten myself into...
