Allegra’s POV:
I stayed Damon Graves' entire trial quiet beside my mother, trying not to make any sign to get Nicholas's attention. In court, cell phones were banned, so, unfortunately, I was not allowed to text him. But I was dying to be by his side and say close to his ear "It is going to be okay."
Finally, when the prosecutor started his final speech, there was a part of me that listened to all the arguments about Nicholas's father's guilt and knew that Nicholas would not be at all well with this story. He could pretend to feel strong, but inside, I knew he would be feeling as alone and helpless as any of us. We can grow up and leave our parents' house, but we would always need their support, which he definitely would not have if his father was convicted.
