KAIA’S POV My arm still hurt like crazy as we walked into the house. I kept clutching it, trying not to let the pain show on my face, but every step we took away from the arena seemed to make the ache worse, as if the shadows had left something behind that was still eating into my skin somehow, even with the distance. Or more like eating into my bones. My father pushed the door open first, and my mom and Dylan followed behind him, still talking about everything that had happened. Their voices felt like a distant echo to me because of the pain, but I caught pieces of what they were saying. “I just don’t see Alpha Gareth backing down easily in this matter,” my father said, shaking his head. His voice was tense, and he sounded tired. You’d think he was the one who fought those things back
