KAIA'S POV. We sat under the large tree in the back of Athena’s cottage. We were all seated in a rough circle, some on the ground, some leaning against the thick roots. No one had said a word since we arrived. My mind kept going back to the woods, to the sight of the body in the tree, to those strange glowing symbols burned into the bark. I think the others were doing the same. Lina sat with her head bowed as if staring hard at the grass might erase the images from her mind. Sera kept twisting a strand of her hair between her fingers, her gaze far away. Jordan leaned back on his hands, his eyes closed like he was listening to the breeze, but his jaw was tight enough to show he wasn’t relaxed. Mia’s face was a little pale, her eyes darting every so often toward the woods in the distance.
