I could feel my pulse drumming in my ears as Athena stepped forward.
“Long ago,” she began, her eyes sweeping across the hall, “before Moonveil became the pack we know, there was only a man with fierce hope, the man who would become the first Alpha of Moonveil.”
I swallowed, leaning closer without meaning to. Even Leander had lifted his head slightly, listening.
Athena continued. “At that time, he served under the King of Celestial Dawn. Their bond ran deeper than most knew, deeper than just that of a king and his subject. Once, that man saved the King’s life from an attempted assassination. The King felt he owed him a life debt and repaid it by helping him build his dream: his own pack.”
