KAIA’S POV
Elder Edmond approached him first. "Son, what is your name?" he asked.
"Leander," he answered, and gasps sounded around the room. The elders shared a look amongst themselves before Elder Edmond turned back to him.
“Leander, listen to me," he started. "This test isn’t just about you. It’s about clarity. Order. The people need to know the truth.”
Leander didn’t even flinch. His arms were crossed, and his jaw was clenched as he stared straight ahead. “I already told you, Elder. I’m not interested in the crown. I didn’t come here for this. I'm sorry, but I will not go through that test."
Elder Silas joined them, his face creased with concern. “That’s not the point, Leander. Interest or not, you’ve awakened something in this territory. This is no ordinary circumstance.”
