KAIA’S POV
I hesitated, my boots crunching over fallen leaves as I tried to make sense of it all. “Athena… what does it mean?” I asked slowly, my voice quiet in the hush of the woods. “What does it mean that the person you saw had her back turned to you?”
Athena didn’t answer right away. For a moment, I thought she wouldn’t at all. But then she spoke, her tone lower than before. “It means… whoever’s following you isn’t of this world, Kaia.”
A cold shiver trailed down my spine, and my jaw dropped. “Meaning she’s… a ghost?” I whispered.
I waited for her to confirm, but Athena stayed silent, her gaze fixed ahead on the narrow trail winding through the trees.
