KAIA'S POV My heart felt like it was trying to tear itself out of my chest. I scrambled out of bed so fast my legs tangled in the sheets, and I crashed into my table lamp. It fell and shattered on the floor with a loud and noisy sound in the silence of my room. I opened my mouth and tried to scream, to call for someone, anyone, but nothing came out. My voice was stuck, caught in my throat like it didn’t belong to me anymore. My eyes widened as I reached up to touch my neck, wondering what was going on.
