She went over to the fireplace and started a fire. I watched as her eyes met mine every other movement. She was confused by my presence and I was confused by her kindness. She went over to the kitchen and put a kettle on the stove.
"I'm not sure what to do or if I should offer you anything," she laughed. Her laugh was soft but joyful. It was like music to my ears. She came over to sit on the floor by the fireplace. I approached her very slowly. She was still so hesitant and scared. I could smell her fear but I wanted to show her I wasn't a threat to her. I laid down beside her and slowly she brought her hand to my head. Feeling her fingers run through my fur was incredible. She was smiling and her eyes lit up. I was glad she was smiling. It almost felt like I was making her happy. The kettle went off startling the both of us. She quickly got up and went to go make some hot chocolate. She was like a child, adding marshmallows and eating one extra before she closed the bag. She came back over to me and sat back down.
"Take it to me to make a friend that isn't even human," she said. "Is this what small-town folk do? Make friends with wildlife."
"Too bad you weren't a bear, or should I be glad your, not a bear," she giggled. Hearing her speak was the best thing in the world. Her eyelids were getting heavy and she was yawning after every word.
"I'm just gonna take a nap here for a bit," she said softly. She slowly put her head on the edge of the couch and fell asleep. She didn't look comfortable but she did still look so beautiful.
"Only you Elena, have this hold on me."

I woke up with a pain in my neck. I rubbed it out and stretched out my arms.
"Oh s**t," I cursed. "Oops." I looked at the wolf sleeping beside me and freaked out. I slowly got up and headed to my bathroom. I took a shower and tried to not worry about the wild animal sleeping in my living room.
'Cause you make me feel like I've been locked out of heaven
For too long, for too long
Yeah, you make me feel like I've been locked out of heaven
For too long, for too long
Oh, oh, oh, oh, yeah, yeah, yeah
Can I just stay here?
Spend the rest of my days here?
Oh, oh, oh, oh, yeah, yeah, yeah
Can I just stay here?
Spend the rest of my days here?
I sang in the shower and up until I got dressed. I headed back to the living room and saw the wolf staring at me.
"Good mor-ning," I said hesitantly. I skipped into the kitchen and made myself some scrambled eggs.
"Do you eat things like this or I bet you prefer some cuddly animal," I didn't know why I was talking so casually to this wolf but it felt normal and right. I grabbed my knee-high brown boots and put them on.
"I have to go to work now, I'll see you later," I didn't know if he would stay in my home or not but I held the door open waiting for him to make his move. I didn't know if he was a he but it felt like that. He ran out of my house and didn't even bother to look back. I still waved goodbye though. I ran to my gran's house and told her I was headed to work.
I drove to the pug mug and was again greeted by the dozen or so pugs.
"Hey guys," I laughed as I tried to pet all of them.
"Grab an apron girl and I'll show you how to make the coffee and take the orders," Carmen said. I walked over to the back and put an apron over my beige romper. Carmen walked me over the coffee procedures and then how to work the register. It was all simple stuff but the minute I had to do it on my own I struggled a bit. Carmen was all smiles and laughs. Ken ran over to help me when I pouted. Rachel even felt bad and told me to just watch her. I laughed at how sweet everyone was. I finally got a handle on it after the fifth hour of my shift.
"Hey Carmen," I heard a deep voice say. I looked up and noticed a very handsome man heading over to the counter.
"Hey Rachel," he said.
"Hey, Dr. Calvin," Rachel replied.
"Hi, I'm Calvin," the handsome gentleman let out his hand for me to shake it.
"Hi, I'm Elena," I smiled.
"Pretty name for a pretty face," he grinned
"Oh no, so cheesy," Carmen remarked.
"Let him be he's trying to woo her," Rachel said.
"I am not but I should, I mean it you are very beautiful," he said. I looked away and then back at his hazel eyes.
"Thank you,"
"Well, the usual," Rachel said.
"Yes please," Calvin answered.
"You dear can take a break," Rachel said.
"Oh, okay," I wasn't paying attention as I was still staring at the handsome man with the beautiful hazel eyes.
"Want to sit with me," he said suddenly.
"Oh, um," I didn't know what to say.
"Yes, she does. I'll bring you a grilled cheese and some green tea Elena," Rachel said. I followed Calvin over to a table and after about five minutes of staring at each other, he finally spoke.
"How long have you been in town for?"
"Not long,"
"Oh, um and how do you like it here,"
"So far so good," I wasn't trying to be short with him or rude but I was nervous.
"Well, this is a nice place to live," he said.
"So Doctor?"
"Yeah, I am a general practitioner and have my own little clinic here in town," he told me. "I help out in the hospital in the city from time to time." Everything Calvin was saying was impressive but somehow it didn't draw me in as much as I thought it would or as much as Rachel wanted it to. She was staring at us the entire time. After my break was over, Calvin left and said he would be looking forward to seeing me again. He was obviously a regular here so I knew I would see him in no time. I don't really know how I was supposed to feel about that.
