**Kael's Point of View** The villa had turned into a compound, a fortress under attack by an enemy we couldn't see. Warriors patrolled the edge, their senses on high alert, looking for a threat that left no scent, no sound, or any other sign of its presence. The air felt heavy, like it was waiting for something to happen. The silence was more scary than any battle cry. Lyra was tossing and turning in my bed, with one arm protectively around Kenny's crib. Seeing them safe under my roof should have made me feel better. Instead, it made a new, sharper kind of fear. I had more to lose now than I ever thought I could.
