The alpha smiled, his eyes never leaving hers. “I am Callum, leader of the Shadowfang pack,” he said, his gaze flickering briefly to Leif with a glimmer of disdain. “And I’ve watched you, Anya. Your power is rare - destined to be shared with someone of equal strength.” Leif lay on the forest floor, weakened and struggling to move after Anya’s unexpected assault. His body was bruised, breath was shallow, as he fought to stay conscious. Anya, still reeling from her transformation, stood over him, a mixture of horror and confusion in her eyes. She hadn’t meant to hurt him - she barely understood what had come over her. The alpha’s lips twisted into a triumphant smile. “So, here you are, left unprotected,” he murmured, his voice like ice. He took a slow step forward, his every movement radiating confidence and power. “It seems fate has delivered you to me.” Anya’s heart raced as she realized his intentions. She took a step back, glancing frantically at Leif, who was still barely able to move. Callum’s gaze followed hers, and a smirk flickered across his face. “He’s no match for me,” Callum sneered. “He’s human - weak and easily broken. You, however…” His eyes glowed with a dangerous hunger as he took another step toward her. “You belong with someone of true power, Anya. You belong with me.” Anya felt a surge of fear, but beneath it was a fierceness she hadn’t felt before. She clenched her fists, standing her ground. “I belong to no one,” she said, her voice steady despite the fear that tightened her chest. “And I won’t go with you willingly.” Callum’s eyes narrowed, his expression darkening. “You think you have a choice?” In an instant, he lunged toward her, his hand reaching for her. Anya twisted away, her senses heightened by her transformation, allowing her to dodge his grasp. She struck back, her claws scraping against his chest, but Callum barely flinched. He was stronger, faster, and far more experienced. She fought with everything she had, dodging and striking, but each movement drained her, her inexperience showing with each stumble, each miscalculated step. Callum, sensing her fatigue, smiled with a sinister satisfaction. He closed the distance between them, his hand clamping around her arm like a vice. Anya gasped as his grip tightened, her strength ebbing with each passing second. Her vision blurred, her breaths shallow as she struggled against his hold, feeling her power slipping away. “You have fought well,” Callum murmured, his tone almost mocking, “but it’s over.” He raised his other hand, claws gleaming in the moonlight as he prepared to strike the final blow. Just then, a low, dangerous growl filled the air, cutting through the silence. Callum hesitated, his gaze shifting just in time to see Leif, rising from the ground, his eyes blazing with an intensity Anya had never seen. “You’re wrong, Callum,” Leif’s voice was a fierce, primal growl, his gaze locked onto the alpha. “She isn’t yours to take.” Before Callum could react, Leif’s body began to shift, his bones cracking and reshaping as fur sprouted across his skin. In seconds, he had transformed, his form larger and more imposing than any wolf Anya had ever seen. Midnight-black fur covered his body, his eyes gleaming with a fierce, unyielding strength. Callum staggered back, momentarily stunned. “You… you are a werewolf?” he spat, disbelief flickering in his eyes. Leif bared his teeth, his voice a low, menacing growl. “I have kept this hidden to protect her, Callum. But I won’t let you take her. Not now. Not ever.” With a snarl, Leif launched himself at Callum, his movements swift and powerful. Callum barely managed to block the first blow, his body reeling from the impact. The two wolves clashed in a brutal struggle, their snarls echoing through the forest as they fought tooth and claw. Anya watched, her heart pounding as the two werewolves battled. She could see the raw power in Leif’s movements, the strength and control he had hidden from her all this time. Despite Callum’s skill, Leif’s strength was unmatched, his every move driven by a fierce determination to protect her.. Callum, realizing he was outmatched, attempted to lunge for Anya, his desperation clear. But Leif intercepted him, slamming him to the ground with a force that left Callum dazed. With one final, powerful swipe of his claws, Leif struck, leaving Callum sprawled on the ground, his body battered and broken. The forest fell silent, the only sound the ragged breathing of the two wolves. Leif stepped back, his gaze fixed on Callum, his posture alert as he waited for the defeated alpha to rise. Anya approached, her heart pounding with relief and awe. She looked at Leif, her mind still reeling from the revelation of his true nature. “Leif… you’re… you’re one of us?” she whispered, her voice filled with a mixture of wonder and disbelief. Leif turned to her, his eyes softening as he met her gaze. “I didn’t want you to know like this,” he said, his voice low. “I wanted to protect you from my world, to keep you safe from the dangers it brings.” But before they could say more, a low growl broke the silence. Anya’s heart skipped a beat as she realized Callum was stirring, his body shifting as he forced himself to his feet. His eyes blazed with fury and desperation, his body trembling with the effort it took to stand. “You think this is over?” Callum snarled, his voice hoarse but filled with venom. “You have only delayed the inevitable. Both of you are marked now. The Shadowfang pack will come for you.” He staggered, his gaze locked onto them with a dangerous resolve. “You will never be safe,” he hissed, his voice a chilling promise. “I will make sure of that. And when I return, I will take what’s mine.” With one last, venomous glare, Callum turned and disappeared into the shadows, his figure vanishing into the darkness of the forest. The threat hung heavy in the air, a promise of future battles and dangers yet to come. Leif exhaled, his shoulders sagging as the adrenaline faded. He looked at Anya, his expression a mixture of resolve and relief. “We will face them together,” he said softly, his voice filled with quiet determination. “No matter what comes, I won’t let them take you.” Anya nodded, her heart swelling with both fear and hope. She didn’t know what the future held, but with Leif by her side, she felt ready to face whatever awaited them.
