He leads me outside, helps me in the car, and then gets in on the drivers’ side. Ignoring me completely “Thank you,” he says and she walks us to the table. What can I get you two to drink while you check out the menu?” he asks. “A whisky neat, what do you want love?” he asks me “Just some water please,” I say and smile. “A water and a whisky neat coming up” he smiles at us and walks off. He returns shortly after with our drinks and I take a sip and continue looking at the menu. “Do you know what you’re getting?” he asks after a while “I think I’ll go for the carbonara” I say and smile. He nods and calls the waiter over “Two carbonaras please” he says “all right. You can expect your dish in 15 minutes, would you enjoy some appetizers?” he asks. Derek looks at me and I shrug, he chuckles “Some garlic bread will do” Derek says and the waiter nods and walks off. He returns shortly after with a basket of bread and puts it down on the table. I grab a piece and nibble on it “hmm good” I say and smile, then take a bigger bite. He smiles lovingly at me. We don’t talk, we just look at each other while eating some bread pieces. It is a comfortable silence and suddenly the waiter is back “Your dishes” he says and puts them down then puts down two wine glasses and fills them. “To a happy future together,” he says holding up his glass. I grab my glass and clink it against his blushing about what he said. He chuckles “this is still a bit weird for you huh?” he asks. “yeah, it is new. And a lot is going on” I say and shrug. He squeezes my hand “I know” he says and smiles sweetly at me. He lets go of my hand and starts eating his plate. I do the same and another comfortable silence surrounds us. We order tiramisu for dessert and share it. He feeds me mostly and we laugh at the silliness of it. “Ready for part two?” he asks grinning “Second part? Yeah sure,” I answer him and he grins even more. he calls the waiter over and asks for the check. He leaves the payment leaving a tip for the waiter and we get up. He leads me to the car, opening the door for me and helping me in before getting in himself.
