chapter 10:Unspoken bound

1080 Words
The moon hung low in the sky, casting a pale light over the palace grounds. Noelle stood at her window, gazing out into the night. The winds whispered secrets as they rustled the leaves of the trees, but the only thoughts that filled her mind were of Alexander. She couldn’t forget the way he had looked at her earlier, the raw vulnerability in his eyes when he had admitted he didn’t want her to get too close. There was something more to his words, a hint of fear that she hadn’t fully understood. He was trying to protect her. She knew that much, but from what? Noelle pressed a hand to her chest, feeling the weight of her resolve settle within her. She couldn’t just stand by and let him isolate himself. Alexander needed someone who could help him confront the darkness inside him, not someone who would shy away. The sound of footsteps echoed behind her, and she turned to see Kaisen enter the room, his expression as unreadable as ever. “Princess Noelle,” he said, his voice quiet yet filled with concern. “You’ve been standing here for a while now. Is everything alright?” Noelle hesitated for a moment, her thoughts a swirl of uncertainty. “I don’t know, Kaisen. Alexander… he’s not what he seems. There’s more to him than the cold prince everyone sees, but he’s afraid to let anyone in. I don’t know how to break through that wall he’s built around himself.” Kaisen’s gaze softened, though his tone remained steady. “You’re the only one who can, Noelle. You have something no one else does—the ability to see beyond the surface. You’ve always been able to heal people to reach them when others can’t. You just have to be patient with him. Alexander’s fear isn’t of you; it’s of what he might become if he lets anyone in.” Noelle nodded slowly, taking in his words. She knew Kaisen was right. She had to be patient but also strong enough to face the challenges ahead. “I’ll try,” she said quietly, her voice firm with determination. “But I need to understand more about his curse. I need to know what drives him to be so… afraid.” Kaisen’s eyes flickered with something unreadable, but he didn’t protest. “I’ll help you with that. But be careful, Noelle. The deeper you go into Alexander’s past, the more dangerous it becomes. There are things even he doesn’t remember, and some truths might be too much for anyone to bear.” Noelle didn’t respond immediately, instead turning her gaze back to the window. The night seemed endless, and with each passing moment, she felt a growing sense of urgency. There was no turning back now. She was already too deep in this—too connected to Alexander’s fate. --- The following day, Noelle ventured into the palace archives, determined to uncover more about the curse that plagued Alexander. She had read enough to know that it wasn’t just a simple affliction—it was a part of him, something that shaped his every move and decision. As she pored over ancient texts and faded manuscripts, she came across a particularly old tome, its pages brittle and yellowed with age. The title, “The Heart’s Curse,” was barely legible, but something about it caught her attention. With trembling hands, Noelle carefully turned the pages, scanning the cryptic symbols and ancient writings. Finally, she found a passage that described the curse in more detail than she had seen before. --- The Heart’s Curse is a manifestation of the bearer’s most intense emotions, amplified by the heart’s deepest desires. It is a power that can tear apart the soul if left unchecked, turning the bearer into a creature of pure rage and destruction. The curse is bound to the bloodline of the heart’s keeper, and its awakening marks the end of peace for those who bear it. --- Noelle’s heart raced as she read the words over and over again. The curse wasn’t just a power—it was a living, breathing entity that thrived on Alexander’s emotions. It was what turned him into the monster he feared. The more she thought about it, the more she realized that Alexander’s rage was rooted not just in his curse, but in his past—the pain of losing his mother, the fear of his own power, and the isolation he had subjected himself to in order to protect others. --- Later that evening, Noelle found herself once again in front of Alexander’s chambers. She had to speak to him. She couldn’t keep hiding behind her fear of what he might say or do. She needed answers, and perhaps, more importantly, he needed someone to listen to him. She knocked softly, and the door creaked open. Alexander stood there, his expression unreadable as always. “You came,” he said, a hint of surprise in his voice. “I couldn’t stay away,” Noelle replied softly, stepping inside. The room was dimly lit, the fire casting shadows on the walls. Alexander remained standing near the window, his back to her, but she could feel the tension in the air. “I’ve learned something,” she said, her voice steady despite the heaviness in her chest. “I’ve learned about your curse. What it is… and how it affects you.” Alexander’s posture stiffened. “You shouldn’t have. You don’t know what you’re getting into.” Noelle stepped closer, her voice gentle. “I know you’re afraid, Alexander. But you don’t have to fight this alone.” He turned to face her, his eyes dark and filled with something unreadable. “I don’t want you to get caught in this… darkness. It’s not just a curse. It’s a part of me.” “I know,” Noelle replied, her voice soft but filled with certainty. “But I also know that you don’t have to be consumed by it. You don’t have to be alone. I’m here, Alexander. And I’m not going anywhere.” For the first time, a flicker of something softer crossed his features. His eyes softened, just for a moment, before he turned away, looking at the floor as if trying to hold back emotions he couldn’t control. Noelle stepped forward, placing a hand on his arm. “You don’t have to hide from me. I see you. All of you.”
