“Really? You think I shouldn’t mind?” she asked. “Yeah, but just make sure you take your medications, even after you’re discharged today". "Just be safe". "Don’t overthink it,” he said shutting the door. Don’t overthink it? Whatever. When did the nurse even say I was going to be discharged? I had to go stay with my mom. (Back at my mom’s…) Ellie's POV But where am I going to get that kind of money? How was I even supposed to survive this? Or should I just go back to dating Damien? Maybe he would pay for everything. But was I really willing to do that? “What am I even supposed to do?” I thought.. Just then, my phone beeped. Beep...Beep.... I reached for it and checked the screen. I froze. Eddie? I opened the message. It read.. Um… I have a deal for you. I don’t know if you could help me. I’m sorry this isn’t the right time to ask, but I swear it’s urgent. If it wasn’t, I wouldn’t be doing this right now. “A deal for me..” I replied. Immediately, the three dots appeared. Then his message came through. Eddie: Yeah meet me at my house. But come tomorrow by 2 p.m. My mom won't be around. His mom won't be around? I thought. I hoped he wasn’t playing some kind of bad game. I have to play my cards well. (At his house).. "Anyway, I don't know where to start, but I will start somewhere". “Okay, what is it?” I asked. “I have things to do". "You can’t just call me here and keep me busy.” She glanced around the room. “And about the practical… that has to wait". If I get a C, no problem. As long as it’s not a carryover.” 'We are talking about a life here, so I understand ' he answered He paused for a moment. “Ellie first and foremost, I want to sincerely apologize for what you’re going through with your mom and everything" "You’re a very strong girl, you know".. Although… He gave a small smile. “We definitely started on a bad note.” Can you please go straight to the point? she asked restless.. Then he leaned back. “So, I have a deal for you.” “A deal?” “Twenty five million naira.” I blinked. “Twenty five million naira?” I repeated. “Yes. Please, don’t shout. The wall has ears.” I lowered my voice immediately. “Twenty five million naira? What exactly am I supposed to do for you?” “I’ll explain everything properly. That’s why I asked you to come so we negotiate in person” I stared at him, still trying to process what I was hearing. “Okay… so how do I start? What am I supposed to do?” He looked at me seriously with a stern face.. “Mind you, don’t think I can be easily bought with money.” I raised an eyebrow. “So why are you offering me twenty five million?” “Because this isn’t just about money.” He reached for a document on the table. “I brought the deal here. All you have to do is sign a contract.” He placed the document in front of me. “Once you sign, that’s it. I’ll pay you the twenty five million naira first thing tomorrow morning.” Her eyes widened. “What?” “You are going to pay it immediately.” I stared at the contract. Twenty five million naira. For one deal. Whatever Eddie wanted me to do, it had to be something serious. Very serious.... I thought..
