KYLIE:
“K… Kylie?” Ronan stutters.
In that moment, there is a howl behind me.
“Rowan, stop!” Tyla yells, causing me to turn and see Rowan rushing toward me, his eyes glowing.
He catches my arm with the speed of light, and the bond materializes, causing the glow in his eyes to disappear.
“What the f**k!” he exclaims, yanking his hand away.
For a second, I stand stunned, wondering if I will ever wake up from this nightmare. How the hell am I mated to two assholes?
The air between us is thick as I stare from one twin to the other.
“Darling, we—” Tyla begins, but Rowan turns to her with a growl.
“Not now! Wait for me in the f*****g car!”
“This is some kind of sick joke, and we are not actually mated to this joke!” Ronan yells, his veins popping.
My heart pounds in my chest as I think of the fact that they will reject me, and I will probably die from the pain. I do not even have a wolf yet, so how can I find my mate without one?
“What stupid manipulation did you make?” Rowan asks, grabbing me by the throat.
His grip is unsteady, like he is trying to tear the bond away.
I gasp for air, struggling to breathe. My face pales, and Ronan rushes at him, slapping his hand away.
“Can’t you see you are f*****g hurting her!” he yells at his brother, who glares at him with his fangs in view.
“Do not tell me you accept this thing as our mate!”
“I do not,” Ronan growls. “But we might not be lucky. What if we do not get one again? What if we are stuck with her forever? We need a mate to claim our titles.”
My heart crumbles further, hearing myself reduced to nothing but a means to an end. They have not rejected me, but their words hurt more than the actual rejection. I pray to the goddess to strike me dead, to make me cease from existence, because truly anything will be better than this.
“Do not think you’ve won, you little piece of s**t!” Rowan shoves me hard, and I stumble, falling to the ground.
Lana storms into the scene immediately.
“Ronan! What the hell did I hear? You kissed that b***h?” she yells, and Ronan grabs her hand, pulling her away while I remain on the rock-hard floor, cold night snow falling onto my skin.
Neither of them looks back at me for help.
I manage to stand, making my way out of the hall and into the thick garden behind the school, a place where I know there will be no nosy couples. A place where I can avoid the twins.
Finally, I reach the snow-crusted garden. I sit on the cold bench, trying to calm the hurt in my heart, but it is almost impossible.
I pinch and punch myself, hoping that if I hurt myself enough, my wolf will appear. I have read in books that a wolf can surface after a certain degree of pain and suffering. Some say near-death experiences trigger it. Others believe it is a myth. I know pinching myself does not qualify as enough pain.
Suddenly, I hear the crunch of a branch. I turn to see two angry figures approaching me. I spring to my feet at once.
It is Tyla and Lana. Their eyes glow yellow.
My heart pounds in my chest, knowing I am defenseless against two beta wolves. They are clearly furious about how things turned out, even though I never wanted this.
“Trust me, I do not want the—”
Lana slaps me hard with her beta strength, sending me sprawling onto the snow. A sharp pain stabs my jaw, and a bead of blood drips down.
“You think you can take what belongs to us, you worthless omega?” Tyla growls, grabbing my hair and yanking me backward.
“Leave me alone!” I groan, thrashing weakly against them.
Lana kicks my feet, and I crash to the ground with a heavy thud. My head hits the snow, spinning my vision, but I manage to roll onto my side.
They stand over me, smirking.
“We’ll teach you to leave people’s boyfriends alone!” Lana hisses.
“You think you can walk around here and take what’s ours? Not one, but both?” Tyla yells, jabbing a knee into my side.
A sharp pain flares through my ribs.
“Now the twins don’t want us anymore, and if you don’t tell us what trick you used, we’ll make sure you regret it!” Lana snarls, stepping on my hand with her heel.
How is that even possible? They could never reject them because of me.
“I did nothing! Please, just let me go!” I cry, shivering from the cold and pain.
They laugh, kicking me a few more times to keep me pinned on the ice. My body curls into itself as the cold seeps deeper.
Lana steps away, grabs a thick stick, and swings it at me. It strikes my shoulder, knocking me flat again. I gasp as dizziness creeps in. Tyla chuckles at my struggles.
Lana raises the stick again, and Tyla stops laughing.
“Lana, stop! You’re going too far!” Tyla yells, grabbing her and pulling her back.
She struggles until she finally releases me.
I lie in the snow, barely able to lift my head or breathe. Everything is blurry. The cold bites into my skin, and my body trembles with adrenaline and fear.
“Oh my god… are you okay?” Tyla pants, letting me collapse fully.
“No… I… I can’t move…” I whisper, tears freezing on my cheeks.
“She’s just scared,” Lana says, crouching in front of me and lifting my chin. “Werewolves don’t die from this kind of beating.”
“She doesn’t even have her wolf yet,” Tyla adds quietly.
The cold spreads deeper, and my body remains limp, numb, and shaking. I have no wolf to protect my human form.
Lana suddenly straightens.
“Why didn’t you tell me this entire time? f**k, I forgot!” she snaps at Tyla, pacing.
“I tried to stop you. This was only meant to scare her, but you took it too far,” Tyla fires back.
They both stare down at me as I groan in pain.
“She looks fine,” Lana says tensely. “Just shaken. We should… leave her in that ditch. It should be warmer in there.”
Tyla hesitates, then nods.
They lift me carefully, gripping my arms and legs. My body feels like a ragdoll in their hold.
“Goodnight, little omega,” Lana whispers as they carry me toward the shallow ditch that used to be a pool behind the school.
My body hits the icy ground with a heavy thud, the cold biting straight through my clothes. Pain radiates through me.
Lana and Tyla step back, then vanish into the shadows without another word.
My breathing is ragged as I lie there, praying for death, because there is clearly no need to keep living.
