CHAPTER 29
The sun was coming up in Appleton Vale when the phone in the Manor started to ring. Olivia rushed out of the nursery and lunged across the landing to silence it. She had only just managed to get Alexander to sleep.
“Hello,” she whispered.
“Is Sebastian there? It’s Mary.”
“Mary?” Olivia asked.
“Edward’s housekeeper,” she replied.
“Oh, sorry Mary, we’ve had a bit of a night of it with Alexander. Is everything ok?”
“Is Sebastian there,” Mary repeated.
“Yes. I’ll go and wake him up. Hang on.” Olivia walked towards their bedroom.
“Darling,” she gently shook Sebastian. “Wake up.”
Sebastian opened one eye and stared at Olivia. “What’s up? Is Alexander ok?”
“Yes, he’s fine. Mary is on the phone, I think something’s wrong.” She passed him the handset.
