Hattie and Olivia were enjoying a leisurely breakfast when Sebastian came crashing in through the kitchen door. He had been at the club since six o’clock that morning with his coach, Hugh, preparing for his defence of The Open Championship that he had won so spectacularly the previous year.
“What the hell happened with Georgiana yesterday?” He rounded on Hattie. “Why didn’t you tell me what a state she was in last night?”
“I didn’t feel it was appropriate given your temper, and I’m glad I didn’t, judging by the foul mood you’re in now.” Hattie stood firm. Sebastian’s temper didn’t scare her. “Susie called me. I didn’t want to worry Olivia so I dealt with it.”
