The charity gala was held in the Temple Hall of the Metropolitan Museum. I wore a champagne gold silk gown that hugged my waist. The back was held together by nothing more than two delicate straps crossing over each other. A sapphire necklace rested against my collarbone. Adrian had sent it over earlier that afternoon. The moment we stepped into the ballroom, nearly every eye turned toward us. Adrian's hand rested lightly against the small of my back. Restrained, steady, yet unmistakably possessive. "Nervous?" "A little." "Then look at me." His thumb gave my waist a gentle squeeze. "No one's going to make you feel small tonight." Grant and Selena were there too. The instant Grant saw me, his gaze lingered. Without a word, he slipped off his suit jacket and handed it to a waiter.
