Adrian drove me back to my apartment himself. The entire ride, he didn't say a word. I assumed he was upset about everything that had happened at the gala. After we stepped inside, I asked cautiously, "Want a drink?" "Sure." The front door had barely closed when my foot caught the edge of the rug. I stumbled forward. He caught me instantly.
