21 The shock wave threw Ridley backward, but her instinctive reaction—air—saved her before she hit the wall. Callie wasn’t so lucky. As Ridley rose toward the ceiling to get her bearings in the aftermath of the explosion, she saw Callie slumped on the floor against the wall. In the passageway, which now had three small craters in the floor and cracks zigzagging in every direction, the mayor was in a worse state.
