Chapter 8

(Arthur’s P.O.V)

As I left Cassandras office I went to my room and I packed up my things, I head to my parents room and I tell my parents I am staying in one of the houses outside the pack house. They asked me why, and I told them I made Lilith and Cassandra feel uncomfortable, I wish to respect their feelings. They nodded in agreement and kept asking what I did but I told them to leave it be. I do not wish to upset anyone else and headed out. Alexander placed me in a nice house near the fields, the houses for the pack members area are always being renovated so the pack members can live comfortably. As I open the door and drop my belongings I looked to the fields, hopefully I will see Lilith…

Let her go. She has found her mate.

Aries. She is supposed to be my mate! I waited patiently for her all these years and this is how I am treated… I have not even found my mate yet, so I have chosen one. I have chosen Lilith.

If you do anything to hurt her, you will start a war. A war between vampires, witches, werewolves and they will come for us. Just like they did to your grand father!

Silence! I will not make the same mistakes that fool made. I will win her, she has yet to be marked, and she will be mine. I hear Aries begin to growl.

Search for your mate, Arthur. She is out there but it is not Lilith!

I go to put my things away and then I hear a knock at the door. I walk over and opened it and it is Alpha Ishmael of the the Crescent Moon pack. Hello Alpha Ishmael, please come in. I see you wasted no time in accepting the invitation; I chuckle. “Yes, my daughter and son would not have missed Lilith’s eighteenth birthday party, especially since it’s a masquerade ball. They Blackharts really went out of their way.” Yes, they did, and I am not surprised Lilith hates attention. We both laugh because it is the truth, she is always hated the spotlight.

“Arthur, have you found your mate yet?” No, I have yet to find her. I have a feeling it is Lilith, but I will not know until tonight. “What if your mate is someone else you meet tonight?” I raise my eyebrow and look at him, well if I meet her tonight then I will not ignore the bond. “Arthur, my daughter turned 18 a couple of months ago, and I was hoping you might sit with her to see if the bond is there?” I feel rage building up within me and I politely smile, shall I be her date for the evening? “Arthur, thank you so much, I really do not want her to be by herself tonight, even if she is not your mate. I genuinely appreciate you being a gentleman and escorting her.” Of course, Ishmael! I give him a firm handshake, what time shall I go to pick her up? “Let us say five thirty. So, you two may get to know each other before the party. She is shy.” Very well, I will be there. We both bow to each other and he leaves.

I think to myself, Damn it!

I think this is a great idea. You have the chance of finding your true mate.

I scoff at Aries. I think it is time to get my outfit situated for tonight. I am curious to see what Alpha Ishmaels daughter looks like. I picked out a black suit with a black slim tie and and a wolf mask that looks aggressive, but I had it made based on Aries snarling. I cannot wait to see how tonight unfolds, as I smile devilishly. I am going to go for a run to let Aries out before I must pick up my date. I leave my little cottage and then a scent hits me. Lilith? I turn to look, and she is with Alistair heading to the field with her brothers Abraham and Augustus, those damn twins… they approve of him?! They never liked anyone who they did not know. How the hell is he winning everyone over…. As I begin to walk the sweetest smell hits me.

MATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What?! No this is not right.

MATE, ARTHUR!

It was followed by the lightest voice that said my name. A-Arthur? I turn to look, and this young girl looks like Lilith almost. Hair black as a raven, pale skin tone, only difference is she had hazel eyes. May I help you I say towering over her. I-I- I am Selena, daughter of Alpha Ishmael, she says as she curtsies before me. I cannot help but smile at her innocence. It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance, I see her eyes begin to swirl with black and Aries begins doing jumps in my mind. This cannot be happening…

I wanted to meet you in person before you picked me up, she says twirling her hair. Damn it, I want Lilith, but her scent is so intoxicating… that was very polite of you, thank you Selena. Let me walk you back to where you are staying. She smiles at me and I hold out my arm and she takes it. The feeling when our skin touched was something that my parents always talked about. It felt like… love.  As I watched Lilith disappear from my view, I tell Aries thank you and I feel him sigh in relief.

As we walked to the house she was staying at, I begin asking her about her day and what she is studying. She tells me about how her mother always compared her to Lilith and it hurts her. I cannot help but feel sorrow, I too was obsessed with her… I learned she is studying to become a doctor and she plans on leaving her pack as soon as possible due to her mother.

“There is one thing you should know Arthur if you accept me you must know. I have been compared to Lilith my entire life by my mother. I am sick of it. I saw the way you looked at her, I cannot, or should I say I will not be your replacement for her just because I look like her.” I see tears filling her eyes, my heart begins to ache for her. I reassure her that now she is my mate I will take her away and she will not have to deal with her mother as much and she laughs thanking me. As we approached her front door, she thanks me again, and I see her eyes swirling with back once more. I shall tell our parents with you on my arm. I want to take her on her front doorstep, but Aries is telling me not too, I cannot even kiss her, and Aries will not tell me why… I bow and say I will return at five thirty and look forward to spending the evening with you. Selena begins to blush, she looks like she is waiting for a kiss, so I grab her hand and place a gentle kiss on it. I smell her arousal; Aries is about to rip out of me, so I bid my farewell and left. 

My heart begins to race, and Aries is whining  because he wants to spend more time with Selena. Aries, we will get to spend more time with Selena. Do not worry, I smile to myself. Aries is jumping in my mind wondering what her wolf looks like. 

I run into Alistair and Lilith and see they have marked each other. I believe congratulations are in order, and hold out my hand to Alistair. "Thank you, Arthur." They ask me what's going on and I tell them I found my mate, and I can see both of their excitement for me. I can not help but smile ear to ear because I feel butter flies in my stomach. I tell them she is my date for tonight and would love to introduce her to you both, and they nod in agreement. I will see you tonight, as we part ways I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I'm no loner tormented by Lilith's eyes, her smile and laughter. All I can see if Selena's and I just know she will make me a better man. I look up and it starts to pour, I start to run to my guest house and once I am inside I get a text from a number. 

Unknown: Hope it's okay I got your number from my fathers cellphone -Selena

Me: Hey, it's no problem at all. I look forward to picking you up tonight. May I ask what your mask is? (Adds to contacts: Selena)

Selena: It's a female wolf but aggressive looking.

Me: I tell her about mine. 

We begin texting back in forth after we discovered our masks are similar, getting to know each other, and asking about her dreams and goals. I seriously can not wait to announce to everyone I found my mate. My heart begin to flutter, and she sends me a photo for her contact and I do the same. I tell her I am going to nap before the party and tell her I call her when I am on my way to get her.
