3: Riley future alpha

2364 Words
I had been sitting in my cell unable to sleep for hours, I didn’t know if it was night or day, there was no window and no sound. I don’t think there was another person in any of the other cells. So I closed my eyes and focused, I could feel a few yards away a guard, he was sleeping and if I really tried I could feel the fear roll off of him from what ever it was he’s dreaming about. Upstairs I could feel the staff, busy, sweating, worried as they prepared for something. My ability to feel other people started four years ago, I was 12, and sitting with my dad in the hospital, he had gone into heart failure and I could feel his heart and the strain it put on the rest of his body. Then later that day I felt it slow down, I felt my dads heart stop.. and it hurt. It hurt so much. As time went by it got stronger and stronger but I learned to control it or rather I try but when even my emotions get the best of me.. there is nothing I can do and that’s what happened with the wolf alpha person. I didn’t mean to.. I didn’t.. I didn’t mean to.. I kept repeating the words in my head over and over, so engrossed in making myself believe that I wasn’t a monster, I didn’t even notice my cell door being opened. I got up quickly and backed away to the wall, but it was only Riley and I could feel he was happy so I didn’t feel scared, or not much anyways. “ hello, I realised I didn’t ask your name.” He took a seat on the bed and gestures to the spot beside him, I sat down but not close, in fact as far away as I could. I cleared my throat and spoke loudly to compensate for the wobble in my voice, it wasn’t fear but hell I was definitely concerned. “Elora fields.” He smiled, “Elora. That’s a lovely name.” When I didn’t say anything Riley spoke again, but it was soft like he was making sure to not scare me. “I thought I should mention a few things, my father was alpha of this pack.” I felt his heart constrict with the mention of his father. “We here are all werewolves, this little community here is our pack, just like there are ones made up mostly of witches or vampires even fairies.” I laughed, I didn’t mean to but I did. “Don’t tell me tinker bell is real.” This time he laughed, “however you are none of the above, but there are some people coming to visit who may have some clue as to what you are.” He stopped like he was waiting for me to say something. Riley trying to look in my eyes started talking again. “In a few days, someone will come to get you to be trialed and most likely executed..” I stood up and moved away from him, I didn’t want to hear how I was going to die. “So what you get these people to tell you what I am and then.. then you just kill me. Why even bother?” Riley stood up, turning to follow in my direction, then stopped. “I need you to trust that when the time comes, I’m not going to let that happen, you will not be killed, do you understand?” He was deadly serious. Looking at him directly i easily managed to focus and feel what he was feeling, there was the pain and loss, even hurt, but what surprised me was the guilt. He felt guilty about something but none of this told me if I should trust him or not and I wasn’t about to get my hopes up. Because I really do think I’m going to die soon, I do think they will kill me and I think I deserve it. All of a sudden I felt Riley’s admiration, for what? I don’t know but he was looking at me like he was seeing more then what was there, a cold icicle rolled down my spine at his intense look and the word mate popped into my head. “What is a mate?” I asked as he headed for the door, probably thinking I wasn’t going to talk to him anymore. He looked up trough his dark lashes, before saying very simply like it was obvious. “Like a soulmate, someone you can’t live without, someone it makes no sense to want forever yet you do.. and in a uncontrollable, would die for that person kind of way. Someone you feel when it doesn’t make sense. The moon goddess pairs us perfectly.” That didn’t make things any clearer, “so you don’t have any choice in it?” He looked confused, but he didn’t feel it, it was like the mask didn’t match, his expressions a contradiction of his thoughts and feelings. “Why would you need a choice when two mates are made specifically for each other? Some have waited decades because we know once we have our mate it will be worth it, worth the wait, worth everything, that’s how it always is.” “So it’s never gone wrong then?” I asked. This time he was definitely confused, “what do you mean wrong?” I took my time to find the worlds, “no one has ever said ‘nah don’t want him or her’ no one has ever been mated to someone and cheated? No werewolf has ever hurt their mate?” The silence that followed was a clear answer but I wasn’t expecting the anger Riley felt from what I had said. I could feel the heat going through him, I didn’t have to look to know his hands were in fists, I could feel his claws coming out, the wolf coming to the surface, wanting to tear out of his own skin. I made a mistake saying anything at all. I backed into a corner by the sink as Riley stomped toward me but he stopped a meter a way and let out a growl or no maybe that wasn’t the right work. It was more like a roar! I felt his bones crackle, his skin rip, his hair changing to fur, I watched as his anger changed him from man to wolf and I felt all of it. Once he was completely a wolf he just stared right at me, looking into my eyes, almost as if he could feel what I felt. Not that it was hard to guess, I was terrified, I was shaking, I was ready to be torn limb from limb, I mean why wait until the execution, when you can just wolf out and tear someone apart anyway. I felt him inside my head before I heard him, when I heard him I jumped. ‘The mate bond is sacred, don’t speak of what you don’t understand’ it was in my head. His voice was gruffer now he was a wolf, even though he wasn’t actually talking out loud. His wolf growled, moving round me, he was a light brown wolf with dark eyes and he was fairly big but not as big as his father. I felt his anger pulsing in my veins, he was struggling to control himself, in this moment he was so enraged by my comments he did want to kill me. As Riley paced in wolf form in front of me I noticed the door was open just a c***k, so I slid along the wall just a tiny to bit to see his reaction. As I expected his eyes followed me without hesitation, for a moment I debated if it was even worth trying to escape, but I knew I had to try. I couldn’t trust him or anyone else to stop my execution, either I just give up or I fight for myself, I had to try. Riley was looking at me, breathing so heavy I could feel his hot breath rustling my messy hair. “Riley!” I said as calmly as I could manage, and slowly I could feel his anger evaporating into guilt, he felt guilty for scaring me, and he turned around. I didn’t wait, I didn’t think, I just dashed for the door and ran through it into the long stone hallway. It was cold but I kept on running, but it was no use, I hadn’t even made it halfway when wolf Riley jumped in front of me, blocking my way. Again he was angry and slowly he started backing me into the wall, I hit it with a thud, Riley looked ready to go for my throat. My fear kicked in, I felt hot, I felt power surge through me, I felt pain and without thinking I pushed. I pushed all that pain and power out towards Riley, and in a second his wolf was on the floor howling in pain. I tried to stop I tried to take it back but my head felt like it was on fire, I screamed and pulled it all back to me as hard as I could. I felt it slam back to me and it was just all to much to bare, all that pain in one moment, the room started to spin, guards came running, Riley wolf was trying to stand up. At least he was alive. And the darkness over took me. I felt Riley changing back as I woke, I felt bones reshaping in the most agonising way, skin tearing, my whole body was in pain and I shook. I only took a second to catch my breath and push the pain back, I had to get up, I had to run, I had to fight even if I knew I was no match for a whole pack of werewolves. Slowly I pushed my self to my feet however when I got a good look at the faces around me I knew running wasn’t an option. I heard a voice behind me, a dark rough voice, drake. He laughed, “good job little witch, if they were not going to kill you before, they will now.” He took a step towards me but looked at Riley when he spoke this time. “like I said, we should just deal with the problem now.” However it wasn’t Riley that answered but the blonde man, what was his name? “Oh but I think our Luna has other plans.” The smug smile said he knew something everyone else didn’t. Riley stood still looking weak from what I did to him, “Jamie, we have things to do.” He didn’t even look at me, he turned to go before saying. “Drake take her back to her cell, everyone else back to your positions.” The hallway slowly cleared of people until it was just me and drake. He had a sickening smile on his face and I could feel his hatred pouring into me, given the chance he really wouldn’t hesitate, he wants to kill me. “Come on little witch.” He said not bothering to check if I’m following, we both no I have no where to run too. He opens the door and I walk into the cell and sit on the bed not looking at the man hovering by the door. I can feel his curiosity, he wants to ask me something, but why hesitate, he’s the one here with all the power and he didn’t strike me as the nervous type. Then I hear the door close but when I look up I am surprised to find drake still in my room, it only takes a second for surprise to turn into fear. I mean seriously what does he want? I suppose I could ask, but I don’t want to, while I’m still debating what to do, drake comes to sit beside me. For a moment he just stares, it’s that look like he’s finding my value, “there’s an old legend about people with the gift of empathy..” that got my attention, “they say empaths have access to memory’s if the emotion in them is strong enough. Is that something you can do?” Why on earth would he care, isn’t he one of the ones who thinks I should have been killed already, in fact I know he is because he’s the one who has tried to kill me, more than once. I answered honestly, “I don’t know!” Drake gave a little laugh before leaning down to my ear, I could feel his hot breath as he spoke, sending shivers through me. “I could stop you from being killed, I could say I knew it was self defence..” I automatically defended myself, interrupting him. “It was self d..” but before I could finish, drake had grabbed my now dirty hair and pulled so my head was ripped up towards him, my throat bare. He gave a sickening evil smile before saying, “I could save you, if you had something that was of any value to me and being able to retrieve memory’s..” he leaned in closer his rough lips touching my throat and I heard him take in a long sniff, “well that would be invaluable.” In less than a second he had let me go and was on his feet heading for the door, only turning back once to say, “think about my offer, you have 3 days!” And he was gone, the cell door locked and once again I was all alone. Could I really get peoples memory’s? If I could it could save my life but what then? Stay here forever? With werewolves? That’s if they didn’t decide to kill me later! I didn’t have a clue what to do!
