Home!
“Carden when you say go home?” I asked a little unsure.
He gave a sexy little chuckle before speaking, “I know you don’t know me, and this must all be a little crazy to you. But el, you are my mate, I can’t just leave you.”
I didn’t say anything I just stood there looking at the ground. Before I knew it I felt hands on my hips, Carden was standing in front of me looking down at me.
“I’m guessing you have a family you want to go back too.” He spoke lowly.
Not exactly but kind of. My mum was.. well complicated.
“ I don’t want my mum worrying about me.” I said finally.
I felt the confusion and concern wash over Carden, but I wasn’t in the mood to get into the horror that is me and my mother.
I think Carden somehow knew I didn’t want to talk about it, he didn’t push it.
I was about to ask him where exactly his home is when I felt something else coming from him, it was need, wanting, lust.
I moved away from Carden, even though I didn’t want to, I just couldn’t wrap my head around the idea of anyone wanting me.
I walked over to the bed and just stood there, I didn’t want to get on the bed but now I felt awkward. Oh god! I could still feel it when Carden came over, this time he didn’t touch me, he sat down and tried looking at my face.
When I wouldn’t meet his eyes he grabbed my wrist and gently pulled, until I was on his lap facing him with no choice but to look.
“El what’s wrong?” His voice was soft but inside it was like he was fighting for control.
I decided to direct us towards him, “why do you feel like that?”
To his confused expression I added, “it’s like there is another person inside you. Like you’re fighting yourself.”
He smiled, “you can feel that?”
At least I knew I wasn’t imagining it.
“It’s my wolf, I call him max.” He said it so casually.
I wasn’t understanding at all, but Carden took my hand and put it to his chest, I could feel his heart beat and his muscles move beneath my fingers.
“What.?” I started to ask.
“Shhh. Close your eyes and focus on me but not me.” He said.
Like that makes it any clearer, but still I did what he asked, I focused and after a moment something happened. It was like I could see one thing become two, like watching purple turn back to red and blue.
I could see in my mind Carden and a wolf standing facing him, but with a mirror between them.
When Carden moved so did the wolf, they were in sync with one another and just like that they melted into one again.
I opened my eyes with a jolt, and for a second it was all darkness and I panicked.
“It’s okay. It’s okay!” Carden whispered in my ear, and the light came flooding back in.
I blinked a few times and could see clearly again thank goodness.
I was still a little dazed so I didn’t try to get up but I moved on top of Carden without thinking and I felt the change in his mood, his eyes seemed to change to a darker colour and he froze.
“Carden.. are you okay?” I asked concerned as his hands tightened on my hips, not so it was painful but the feeling of him grabbing me had me wanting to hold on too.
Before I could do anything, Carden pulled me in and kissed me, his lips were warm and soft and even though I should have pushed him away, I mean I hardly know this guy, I couldn’t.
In fact I was a very willing participant, my hands found his shoulders, he felt so strong under my curious fingers.
I felt the surprise bubble up inside Carden, and I couldn’t help but giggle, Carden pulled back and looked my in the eyes.
“Not the reaction I was expecting.” He murmured.
I slipped off of his lap, sitting next to him in the bed, however I regretted it quickly when that cold feeling came again.
“What were you expecting?” I asked glancing at him through my lashes.
“For you to scream.” He half chuckled but I could tell he was kinda serious too.
“Why would I do that?”
This time he looked super confused, “well I’m not sure I would be taking it as well as you, had I just been pushed in the deep end of werewolves and what nots.”
This time I laughed, “don’t get me wrong if you weren’t here I would still be terrified, but..” I stopped myself unsure of how to say what I felt exactly.
“But what?” Carden breathed out.
“I can feel what you feel.” I thought it would be obvious but it was clear he wasn’t understanding so I rephrased it.
“I can feel what you feel so I know without a doubt, you would never hurt me.” The last part didn’t come out as steady as I would have liked, suddenly I felt scared I might be wrong.
My fear only lasted a moment as Carden smiled, a big goofy grin that lit up his whole face.
Then he changed, his smile faded, and he got lost in his own thoughts for a few seconds, before finally he asked, “doesn’t it hurt? Feeling what everyone else can feel all the time?”
I didn’t really have the words to explain so I just nodded, “yeah, it hurts.”
All the time..
It never stops..
Except now!
“It hasn’t been as bad since I met you.”
And he smiled again.
