Tristram strode resolutely towards the fire. He was surprised at how quickly his path diverged from Ivan’s. Within just a couple of minutes he could no longer see him clearly or hear his footsteps. Tristram relished the sensations of the warm, still night. The dry smell of the paddocks was getting steadily more tainted with wood smoke. The stars shone brightly in their sapphire bed and the high gibbous moon cast the landscape in silver. The two campfires were vibrant orange beacons… Tristram stopped to look behind him.
