“Let’s look at them anyway.” Dared Pyran in an excited whisper. “No!” Bawled Saffi, “Granddad Toby told Tristram not to look at the red colours!” “Saffi! Don’t yell!” hissed Tristram. The adults had not heard them. Warrick was clearly trying to impress his grandparents and his aunty by behaving entirely out of character. He was polite, cheerful and helpful. The ladies were getting merrily tipsy with white wine. Mary cackled raucously as Holly and Hester each fought to dominate the conversation. The men had fired up the gas barbeque and were standing officiously around it, exchanging yarns and jokes. They were all far too happy and loud to notice secret mischief.
