Eastern beach is an entry point onto the Ninety-mile Beach of East Gippsland. The sea there is generally rough and clean, and the waves are green and foamy as they cross sand bars on their way into shore. The sand is soft and beige. The Ninety-mile beach is spacious in feel, as the sand is wide and long, and one cannot see an end to it in either direction. To the west, only a handful of kilometres away, the beach meets the man-made entrance into the expansive Gippsland Lakes system. It is a tumultuous and dangerous place. The sea fights to enter as the tide flows in, then the battle is reversed as the tide changes with the moods of our moon. Many men have drowned there, and many boats have been lost.
