The sterile, blinding white of the hospital room was a stark contrast to the darkness of the yacht’s underbelly. I opened my eyes slowly, my head throbbing with a dull, persistent ache. The rhythmic beeping of the heart monitor next to my bed was the only sound in the quiet room. I tried to move my hand, but an IV tube taped to my arm pulled slightly, reminding me of the nightmare I had just survived. My memory was fractured.
