The shrill ringing of my five thirty a.m. alarm filled the room, disrupting the deathly silence hanging intensely around it. I had been awake almost the entire night, afraid the moment I closed my eyes, the nightmares would return. Staying awake hadn’t been any different either because all my brain could do was try not conjure the memories.
