The second Alpha’s gaze locked onto the ridge where we were hiding, and the moment stretched so tight that it felt like the entire forest was holding its breath while it waited to see which way this would break. No one moved.
The air felt thick in my lungs and my pulse pounded so hard in my ears that I was sure it had to be loud enough for every wolf in that clearing to hear.
The second Alpha inhaled slowly, and the deliberate way his chest rose and fell told me he was not guessing anymore. He knew.
Christopher followed his gaze. Then his lips curved into a slow, knowing smile.
“Well.” He said loudly enough to carry across the clearing. “Looks like we’ve got company.”

The word slammed through my head at the same time Ezra’s hand moved in a sharp signal.
