The word scraped over my nerves because it made this sound technical instead of personal, and there was nothing technical about Ezra standing there with his father’s blood on his knuckles and the whole pack waiting to see what kind of Alpha he really was.
Alpha John slowly pushed more of his weight into his palm and rose just enough to get one foot firmly under him.
Enough to show that he was not yielding. Enough to remind everyone watching that until Ezra ended it or John submitted, this was still alive. And then John laughed.
It was low and rough because of the blood in his throat, but the sound still carried.
“You heard him.” Alpha John said, and his eyes never left Ezra’s face. “Finish it.”
