Laura’s POV I could remember the few times my parents told us stories about our pack. About how we won several wars against other packs who attacked us and how the shadow Alpha single-handedly ambushed spies who spied on us. But I couldn't help but wonder who the shadow Alpha was. “Why haven't we seen the Alpha?” Clara asked. Katherine, my mom looks at my dad before giving her reply. “He has been away for some business.” “We don't even know our Alpha. That's strange.” Clara went on to say nonchalantly as she continued painting her nails. “He comes occasionally to oversee things,” My mom answered but Clara was already lost in what she was doing. I wondered what business could make an Alpha leave his pack for years. It must be very important. **************** I came back from school and dashed into the kitchen for food but I felt a very sharp pain in my chest. I clasped my chest to stop the pain but it increased with every breath I took. I tried not to breathe to avoid the pain but it didn't stop. I slowly rose to make dinner for everyone when the pain reduced and gradually stopped. I was almost done with dinner when I heard the front door open. Clara walked in, with a smirk on her face. When our eyes locked, I tried to say something to her but she turned and went upstairs. I watched her and decided to give it more time. It has been like this with us ever since Clara found out about my mate. She is always ignoring me and avoiding any form of conversation. I continued making dinner. Soon our parents were back and all bubbly. “Good evening Dad, Mom” I greeted as I did the final counter cleaning. “Laura. We won't be eating dinner tonight” my mom said while my Dad nodded at me and they both went upstairs. “Alright. Good night.” I answered. I went upstairs to call Clara to come have dinner when I overheard her conversation with someone over the phone. “Well, kissing Jeremy is mind-blowing. He asked me out on a date.” Clara revealed. “She kissed him. She kissed our mate!!! That was why you had that pain.” My wolf boomed with anger. I knew that. I just never thought that it would be my sister when she knows how awfully painful it feels when one's mate gets intimate with another. I figured the kiss happened at their detention together. What was I expecting when I knew how Clara felt towards Jeremy, I thought. I expected Jeremy to have rejected me since he hated me so much but he hasn't. If he had, our mate bond would have slowly been broken and I wouldn't have to feel the pain so much till the mate bond dies off. I hurriedly went downstairs, ate dinner, and went to my room. As much as I hated my mate, I couldn't stop crying knowing that my sister kissed him. He can fool around with other girls in school but he chose to do it with my sister just to cause me pains and torture me. “Why did the moon goddess give him to me as a mate knowing fully well that he has been my nightmare from kindergarten? Now my life is a living hell.” For the next few days, I noticed everyone avoided me but only stared at me. It felt relieving for me not to be bullied and made the center of attention. After school on one of the weekdays, while doing my homework in my room, the pain started again. This time it felt so intense and overwhelming. I tried to muffle the pain but it kept coming. “Laura, we're leaving….” my mom paused her statement as she walked in to see me in intense pain. “What is it, Lau?” She asked but didn't come close. My Dad walked immediately in a tux and said “It's the bond pain. Her mate seems to be very busy”. “That's what you get for being very fat. Don't you see how beautiful your sister is?” My father added and left my room. “You just have to go through this Lau. There is no other way.” My mother said and left as well. This lasted for forty-five minutes. And when it finally stopped, I dozed off in tears. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I'm currently sitting at my favorite spot at Domino's as I scribble down my assignment and a burger in my other hand as I munch at it at intervals. “I knew I'd find you here,” a familiar voice said to me. I already knew who it was before I saw him. “Mr. Matt?” I called out his name as a question and looked up at him. “What? I don't get to eat burgers too?” He said already taking a seat across from me. “No..I..not that. I just didn't think you would want to eat your burger with me…you know…here.” I stammered as I looked around to take note of the people around us. Mr. Matt stared at me long enough for me to start blushing. I could feel the heat from my cheek. So I looked away and continued writing. “I love your company. Have I told you that?” He finally said. “AHH! Funny,” I said without looking up. “You think I'm funny?” he asked with a serious face. That got me to think that I might have offended him so I tried to clear the air. “No…I. I wasn't…I just didn't think we had a reasonable conversation before.” “Who says we can't start now.'' He was smiling hard now and this made me realize that he wasn't serious after all, he wanted me to defend myself. “You're my teacher,” I answered. “And you're eighteen.” I gave him a questioning look. But he was already signaling the waiter who was close by. “How do you like it? He asked me. I waited till the waiter was at our table before saying, “Little sugar and lots of milk.” “I want mine black with no sugar.” He said to the waiter and turned back to me. “What do you think, If I offer to teach you how to fight back and gain more confidence.” “I can fight back” I tried to defend myself but regretted saying that. Not when he has been the one saving my ass. He didn't act like he heard what I said but continued. “You have all it takes to make a man bow. You just don't know it yet. So, are you accepting my offer?” “You make it sound like I want to seduce a man.” “You are. With your innocence,” he said bemused. “What?” I asked, almost choking from the burger I had in my mouth. He was about to say something when our coffee arrived. “Thank you,” he said and smiled at the female waiter who blushed before leaving. He took his time to sip his coffee while I watched him. When he was done he stood up and said. “Let me know when you consider my offer.” I just stared at him as he left. “Who leaves a conversation like that? There is something strange and different about him.” I thought to myself.
